Per an ad in the NY Times, Nathan Lane will depart from his engagement in the White House on July 13 (8 weeks from now).
If only the real guy did the same.
So does that mean NOVEMBER will close July 13th? I can't imagine the producers would even try to replace him...
As I started to read the thread title, I thought I was on the off-topic board so I rushed to grab the remote and put on the news. What a double disappointment.
I really wanted to see this. Ah well.
So wait, I'm confused...
Is he leaving the run, with Richard Kline taking over, or are they canning the show forever ... 'cause the latter would really suck. I mean, 6 1/2 months ia solid run, I guess, but it deserved a longer run, IMO.

Who the hell is Richard Kline?
And where does it even say that?

Shame this show never had a Rush policy
Yankee, if you had read through your PLAYBILL for NOVEMBER, you would've realized that he understudies Nathan. He's most recognized for his work on THREE'S COMPANY.

Sorry that came off so snarky, I read too much into your "Who the hell is Richard Kline?".
I just assumed that all the releases about Lane leaving the play meant that the show is closing on that day. Guess not?
They'd need a big star to replace him, not an understudy.
Any ideas for who would be good for the role and a big enough star to attract people to the show as a replacement?
No one immediately comes off the top of my head.
I can't imagine the show will continue without him, as it has been floundering even with him. At least they are giving good notice.
Why the hell would the producers replace him with Richard Kline? He won't sell a single ticket. They'd lose any money they've made. What a foolish comment.

Wow when I first read the discussion about Richard Kline, I thought you guys were talking about Richard Kind, so I grabbed my November playbill and straightened myself out. The producers would be total idiots to have the understudy cover the role for him, I had no idea who he was. Three's Company isn't exactly a source you would want to mine for Broadway gold, just look at Suzanne Somers.
Anyway, because of the phrasing of the announcement I would assume that the producers are searching for a replacement. Allow me to make a suggestion: Alec Baldwin. Although I'm not sure how well starting in mid-July would work with his 30 Rock shooting schedule. I'm pretty sure the show is shot completely in NY, so it might not be out of the question.
EDIT- November does have student rush, available two hours before curtain. I just noticed this on telecharge. "1 ticket per valid ID for students 25 and under". They are the standard 26.50.

Alec Baldwin seems like a good idea...I hope I'll get to see this before Lane leaves.
As much as we liked it, they should close it when he leaves . I cannot imagine anyone else in the role.

I would love to see someone take over this role and have the show go on to play until Inauguration Day in 2009.
Alec Baldwin
Great Idea!
