Ross Coleman

My thoughts and wishes to the whole company and his family.

That's very sad about Ross Ross Coleman At least he died peacefully in his sleep, which, if you're going to go... Sending good thoughts to his family.

Tigg - he's obviously good with the emotional side as he definitely fulfilled that for me last night. His voice could have been stronger in places (volume wise, not notes wise) but his held high note in Macarthur Park was stunning! He did really well this time, especially considering he was apparently only told he was going on at about 3pm yesterday afternoon!

Yeah, that's kind of how I felt about Matthew, and my friend, who really likes him, herself said it was very Oli-esque. It was VERY camp but I just didn't get the emotional side to Adam that Oliver's built up, bar Hot Stuff/post-Hot Stuff (I did feel his terror when they were about to rape him, and Adam's breakdown was really well done - but I just didn't feel his relationship with Bernadette changed enough after that). I'm sure you're right, must be daunting stepping into someone else's shoes. He's definitely got a great voice, just needs to find Adam's heart!

Ooh, lovely. Haha, I suppose it wouldn't work with a Bob visibly younger than the lovely Bernadette! When's Mark on as Bernadette? They've removed all holiday dates from the site so I'm not sure when that's happening.

A young Bob is OK as long as he's courting Bernadette. (Don't forget Trumpet was a youngster.) Otherwise she comes off as a bit predatory.

Mark is playing Bernadette August 3-8.

Oh, I just meant the line, not the age! But you're right. Don't suppose you happen to know when Clive Carter's got holiday booked, too?

Terribly sad news about Ross Coleman, my heart goes out to his family and friends.

Re. understudies: it's always worth checking out http://westendunderstudies.com for updates if you want to see a particular actor go on (or don't want to miss the first choice in the role, depending on your point of view).

James1969: may I make some sartorial suggestions for your next visit:

If that's your usual attire James then I'm really sorry (and surprised!) I missed you on 11th July (you'd just left after chatting to HotJohn by the time I spotted him o/s the Palace on his birthday). Sartorial Suggestions

How about a complete contrast:

Apparently it's a "comfortable and easy to wear one-piece" - and it has a tie-in with the show, though the antenna might make for a bit of a distraction for the people in the 'premium seats' behind you.

Im hoping to go this Wed or Sat.

Mark Inscoe

Thanks for the report about Mark Inscoe frapperia, I was wondering how he'd fared. He has big stilettos to fill so I hope he gets more into the swing of the role as the week progresses (as I said with Matt Cole, esp now he has got the first night nerves out of the way). How was his interaction with Clive Carter as Bob?

James: you'll have to post a picture of your outfit for 29th August (I can't see the pic you posted above, so now I'm intrigued)!

If it helps I usually upload whatever picture I want to use to tinypic.com and copy the URL from there, then use coding. (I always get the [IMG] thing though, so I'm obviously not doing it right either).

That's such a shame if the general consensus is that the understudy isn't really hitting the mark - both for the actor themselves when they're under pressure (probabaly a lot of it self-imposed) and for the audience who may get a false impression of the performance/production.

It makes me wonder who is going to fill Tony Sheldon's shoes in Toronto next month (let alone how)! His performance is such a tour-de-force, it would be a real shame if the show's longevity and international success was compromised by the fact that he can't play Bernadette forever, nor can he be in more than one place at any one time. (Still holding out for him to make a triumphant Broadway debut in 2011 though-if so, I'll be there cheering him on)!

I'd LOVE TS to stay in London too! (even if he leaves Priscilla I could see him as a great Albin maybe??) I definitely think there are other actors who could play Tick well (because Craig Ryder did a fantastic job when JD was off when I saw the show a couple of months ago).

I've also seen understudies for Bob, Adam and Shirley. Jeremy Secombe was very convincing as Bob, Matthew Cole was disappointing as Adam and Danielle Coombe's u/s as Shirley (who I've seen twice now) seems to have no comic timing at all. The one-timers in the audience liked her well enough (which I suppose is good enough), but I thought she missed the mark by a mile.
