re: Producers Movie- No Change at the Globes

frontrowcentre - Hostel actually got marginally better reviews than The Producers, if we go by www.rottentomatoes.com... 58 and 52 percent positive respectively, with the average critic's rating of each at 5.9/10 and 5.8/10. I'd categorize them both as having mixed reviews, but Hostel definitely comes out on top here.

I don't understand what breaking top 10 has to do with the quality of a film or its worthiness for "best of" awards. Not that I'm saying Producers deserves awards. It's just if that's what it's all about, then let's just give "Best Picture" to what ever movie brings in the most money at the box office and "Best Actress/Actor" to who ever gets paid the most that year.

re: Producers Movie- No Change at the Globes

While I love watching award shows I think that an actor or movie, play, musical, etc. isn't necessarily better or worse if it/he/she is nominated or wins any awards. Although if it is something/someone I like then I'm somewhat biased and happy for it/them. Most award shows are political anyway.re: Producers Movie- No Change at the Globes

Make sense? Sorta?

I agree with Hannah.

Many movies that gained critical acclaim last season didn't do squat at the box office, like "Sideways" and "Being Julia".

Quibbler:

I think "The Producers" lost it's chance to win when they decided that "Walk the Line" was in the Musical/Comedy category.

Not true. Although I loved THE PRODUCERS, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS, and THE SQUID AND THE WHALE are all better films than THE PRODUCERS.

inlovewithjerryherman: Sideways did well at the BO after it started getting all the recognition. Before the awards, it wasn't playing at very many theatres.

Being Julia didn't receive much acclaim, other than for the brilliant Bening. The reason the film didn't make money was because it was BARELY shown anywhere. Very limited release.

re: Producers Movie- No Change at the Globes

yes, there are movies which get rave from critics yet flop in box office and movies which were panned by critics yet do well in box office. There are also movies which do well on both sides and movies do terriblly on both sides.

The Producers is the movie which appeal neither to the critics nor to the public opinion. It is a failure both in artistic and commercial aspects.

re: Producers Movie- No Change at the Globes

Going back to the making it to the 10 ten spots, it's very hard sometimes to get a film up there when you are up against, KING KONG, The Cronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter and other big blockbusters that people have been waiting until the end of the year to see. Sadly, the producers has only opened in a small amount of theatres according to IMDB. If they would give the damn movie a chance it might make some money. I think it deserves the awards it was nominated for. Nathan Lane was awesome, though I feel Gary Beach should have taken the nod over Will Farrell, but people would rather see junk like Fun with Dick and Jane (a remake of a perfectly decent movie) instead. Don't say that Producers was a remake because it is way different from the original movie. Plus the original wasn't a musical.

I don't think Will Ferrell deserved the nomination at all. I would rather have seen the slot go to Donald Sutherland for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, or to either of the two sons from THE SQUID AND THE WHALE.

re: Producers Movie- No Change at the Globes

Well, The Producers is not the reason I am going to watch at all. That said. I'm glad it's nominated and it probably won't win. But I wish Nathan Lane luck.

BTW, Munk if you don't think that Will Ferrell deserved to be nominated why did you nominated him for your own awards? I was just wondering, no harm.

re: Producers Movie- No Change at the Globes

As I said in other threads, I nominated people that I thought most people liked. If I left out big people like him, Joan Allen, Catherine Keener, etc - that I wasn't blown away by, the results would be less fair. That's why.
