I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I wanted to know, is it official that they are doing the show on roller skates or is that just a dumb rumor?
One again, sorry if this has been asked before!
Thanks.

And i've heard out-of-context rumblings about plexiglass somehow being involved...
Anyone who can explain that too?

Posted: 3/8/07 at 4:59pmI'm pretty sure roller skates are a dumb rumor that was made up back in the original thread of Little Mermaid casting..someone said they think the show should be on skates and that started a huge rumor

I would call it 3/4 confirmed.
From Riedel
What will it look like?
According to several people who attended the presentation, the sets will be made of Plexiglas to give the sense of being underwater. The actors will race around the stage in Heelys, which, for those of you who don't have kids, are sneakers with wheels.
Francesco Zambello, the noted opera director Disney has hired to stage "The Little Mermaid," said there will be "no water and no flying" in her production. She decided to use Heelys after a group of kids whizzed by her in an airport last year.

Benjamin Lily Rosenbloom (<~Look, i did it!),
I was just about to post that. The plexiglass sets sound like they'll be extremely interesting and visually impressive.
As for the heelys, well, as long as they don't look like sneakers and are disguised as fins or what-have-you, i'm VERY comfortable with this.

I'm coming around to it. Mostly I avoid children, but I did see one heelying around a restaurant this evening, and there was some mighty smooth gliding going on. As long as it doesn't look as awful as the 'Little Mermaid ON ICE!' picture that occasionally crops up in these threads, it could work. :3

Assuming the staging is amazing, I just hope the writing can hold up to it, unlike The Lion King (From everything I've heard).

I've never seen (or heard, for that matter) The Lion King, but all i've heard is "Wow! Rafiki is incredible and the costumes are astounding!... But after 'Circle of Life', it just goes downhill..."
Here's to hoping Little Mermaid can do both!

The way I undersand it is that they will be wearing heelys, their legs will be covered in black, and their fins will then sort of come of their backs (this is all from speculation I've heard). Here's a picture from a blog, but it's nothing official---bloggers interpretation, I think (he/she may be a BWW poster..)

"ummm... i'm not too sure about that design. Hmmm..."
my thoughts exactly.... I got the weirdest mental picture of Ariel rollerskating around the stage in that design.

This is way too weird.
Sounds like one big out of town mess.
What about the story?
What about the acting.
The two leads have very limited experience
and if the story isn't strong
like TARAZAN
this could be a disaster.
