Apparently, he was married to Ethel Merman for 32 days.

I recall him being the apartment doorman on Jonathan Silverman's short-lived sitcom THE SINGLE GUY, which ran in tandem with FRIENDS on Thursday nights on NBC. I wondered then how much longer he woudl have...about another 15 years as it turned out.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
My biggest Ernest Borgnine reference is the Poseidon Adventure.

His wife, Tove, sells her perfume on QVC. Ernest would frequently call in when she was on the air. He sounded quite frail but very lucid.
I'll always remember him in "Marty"
It us a shame he did not a Lifetime Oscar or an AFI Lifetime award.
Considering that he won a competitive one for Marty, I think he was all set.
He was on SNL recently on a "What Up With That?" sketch. He looked great!

Yes and as the old story goes, "His name didn't come up!"
I don't think he ever did Death of a Salesman.
^ You're right. I know he did some Broadway, and I misread that part of the article.
funny quote by Ernest Borgnine:
Ernest on his marriage to Ethel Merman: "Biggest mistake of my life. I thought I was marrying Rosemary Clooney."
RIP
Favorite film he was in was definitely The Wild Bunch.
He won the SAG lifetime achievement award recently. He gave a very eloquent speech.

I liked Borgnine, but my favorite was Borg Seven of Nine.
I only saw "Marty" several years ago, and it was only then that I realized how good he was and how deserving he was of the Oscar.

My thoughts and prayers are with Varla Jean Merman.
I remember seeing him in "A Grandpa for Christmas". That movie sucked.
May he Rest in Peace.
Ernest Borgnine's Secret To Staying Young
I was listening to this mainstream, mediocre morning show on my way to work this morning, and they mentioned his passing in their "Entertainment Buzz". When they listed roles he is known for, they only listed his voice work on two Spongebob Squarepants characters. Then, they joked about how his marriage to Ethel Merman was shorter than a Kardashian's.
Ah, the media
Although he made some rather homophobic remarks in re: Brokeback Mountain, he was no doubt talented and will be missed.

If you look in Ethel Merman's autobiography, she has the beginning of a chapter with just his name on the page. Then you turn the page and it starts the next chapter.
Yes he made some very bad homophobic comments about Brokeback Mountain. It really turned me off as I enjoyed him so much as an actor.
I lost all respect for him after his very homophobic comments about Brokeback Mountain.
He was a product of his time. I can give him a pass. He has passed, as will soon much of his mindset.
