"LaChanze also played the role in both L.A. and Broadway."
She originated the role in the Chicago production, opposite Hinton Battle.
Norm Lewis with either Anika Noni Rose or Renee Elyse Goldsberry would probably convince me to see this show again.
I want to see kenita Miller. Quentin and she did it on tour together years ago.
Kenita also did it at Papermill.
Mary Testa as Emma Goldman? Probably not a wise choice.
"Mary Testa as Emma Goldman? Probably not a wise choice."
Testa would turn a very powerful secondary part into some big campfest.
However, let me just say I'm very happy to see this transfer. I didn't get to see it in Washington, but I heard great things about it. Ragtime is a marvelous show and I'm glad to see it coming back to Broadway.
I'd love to see Testa as Ema Goldman, She has done great work in more dramatic parts like See What I Wanna See, so its not as if all she can do is really broad, campy comedy.
Anika Noni Rose would be amazing. As would LaChanze, but I doubt she would take the role.
LaChanze played the role already, I'm not sure she would be interested in doing it in this revival and even if she looks like she is 20, I imagine they are going with an actress who is actually younger than LaChanze.
I doubt Anika Noni Role would take Sarah at this point in her career, especially with the possibility of shooting a 2nd season of No.1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY.
F*** No 1 Girly Parts detective agency. Get Anika back in a musical on broadway
Delurking to say:
1.) YAY Ragtime!!!
2.) I adore Renee Elise Goldsberry - as you can tell from my avatar - and think she would make a great Sarah, her baby is only two months old. I don't know if she was up to the auditions but I really hope so. Otherwise I totally cosign Anika Noni Rose.
Okay, returning to lurkdom. Carry on.

Yay, this means I can hopefully see it when I'm in NYC!

"I'm pretty sure Leigh Ann Larkin will be transferring with THIS production, and not taking a role in NIGHT MUSIC.
From her facebook: Leigh Ann Larkin: Neil Simon!!!! Ragtime on Broadway 2009!! Holla!!!
someone writes: Congrats!!! I am so excited for this!
Larkin: Thanks!!! Me too!!!
Facebook stalking at it's finest, but it gives us some information."
wrong facebook much? Leigh Ann's facebook did not say that, and never did. she took classes at my theatre school in pgh when she was a kid and i have many friends who were in beauty and the beast with her when she performed it here, so i know the leigh ann i am facebook friends with is the real one...

1. What are the chances the magnificent Brian Stokes Mitchell would reprise his role?
2. Does anyone else think the stage of the Neil Simon is a little small for a show of this size?
Why would Leigh Ann have an impostor? Very odd.
This is the facebook that said it

This facebook also has photo albums uploaded from her Birthday party. Why would an impostor have those?

Oh yeah...
and 3. The performance with the OBC on the Tony Awards still gives me chills!
Larkin is her stage name...so unless she actually has two facebooks, which i guess is a possibility...
Looks like it's a possibility. Why would an impostor have photos from her Birthday party, or photos of her with castmates from a Ragtime party?

ahhhhh very true ljay. i wonder why she has two...
Many actresses do that. I am friends with one on facebook and I have both of her accounts added.
1. What are the chances the magnificent Brian Stokes Mitchell would reprise his role?
Like, zero? I love Stokes more than words can say, but he'd be more fitting as, say, Fredrik in Night Music (how great would that be?) than reprising Coalhouse. Besides, Darrington was wonderful and a good fit for the dynamic of this cast.
2. Does anyone else think the stage of the Neil Simon is a little small for a show of this size?
Possibly. The production at the Kennedy Center involved some pretty high scaffolding, so it'll be interesting to see how they make it fit on a stage that has (from what I recall?) less vertical space. I wonder if the mezzanine overhang will be a problem.
Nothing is official yet for Leigh Ann being in either Ragtime or A Little Night Music. She's obviously just excited that Ragtime is transferring. I'm excited for her coming back to Broadway in anything (if all works out).
Christopher Kale Jones is Houdini.
That is Leigh Ann's facebook.
