I HATE it...I really don't understand why people are so crazy for it. He has what my friends and I call "machine gun vibrato." And it sounds way too throaty. Irritating...I'm sure he's an amazing actor...but that voice...not happening.
lol. I'm glad this needed its own thread.

Someone can't express their opinion on a message board...wow, how horrible of me.
Machine gun vibrato? I was thinking more like... "Nuclear Bomb Belting" You know.....if nuclear bombs were a good thing......
Never said you couldn't. Didn't argue with you, either. Could have, but didn't. Just amused that you felt the need to so boldly announce it. There are only like 86 threads where it could have gone, that's all.
I love his voice - it's distinctive and imperfect. I think that's what makes him so amazing as Bobby. There's something about the vulnerability in his voice that makes it beautiful.
you can always express your opinions, but this is a bit harsh.
He's really ugly, too.
"I was thinking more like... "Nuclear Bomb Belting" You know.....if nuclear bombs were a good thing......"
That's awesome. :)
I know, Em, you just DESPISE him!
I can't STAND that bitch.
I have to agree with jboy. I can't stand his voice and I think his acting and faces he makes on stage are reminiscent of an adolescent girl.
I have to agree with Katecab... I love the imperfection in his voice... thats what makes a preformer stand out...
When I saw Company I was completely enthralled, and couldn't have said a bad thing about his performance if you had forced me to. Listening to the CD... I've never quite had the same reaction, because I do get a bit annoyed at the vibrato as well. He has a fantastic voice, but... well, it gets a bit Betty Buckley-esque at times.
He's got one of the best singing voices I've ever heard. Can't get enough of him!
Okay, I'm being serious now. I loved his voice instantly, from the second I first put on the TTB CD... because it reminded me of Adam Pascal. It's beautifully expressive, and so, so versatile. But, I'd be lying if I said his vibrato didn't grate on my nerves occasionally.
It took me a while to warm up to his voice, until Company his vibrato really irked me. However, I now love the natural and untrained quality of his voice - it allows his performances to seem much more real.
I looooooooove Raúl's voice.
Like, a bit too much.
If you ken what I mean.
*ahem*
I was so tempted to start a new thread called "RANDOM: Raul Esparza's hair" so we could debate that one but I restrained myself. Love the voice, love the hair, love the show. Go figure.
It bothers me. When I have seen him perform live it does not because his entire performance is generally very connected and moving. However, everytime I listen to my CDs with him on it, I grab my throat out of pain for his.

I also love Raul's voice. He is the only man to ever give me chills during a song, and that was "Hushabye Mountain" in Chitty. His vibrato is what makes his voice so wonderful, and his incredible acting masks any technical imperfections in his voice.
Anyone who claims he's the worst Bobby voice they've ever heard clearly hasn't heard the Donmar Bobby. "Reminiscent of Kermit" is the understatement of the century.
I love it. (Well, duh!) I do feel that his voice doesn't sound as good as it could on the Company CR, butit's still wonderful. What amazes me is that on every cd, he sounds completely different.
