I have a couple of faves:
* when mark and roger are burning scripts in the cans to 'keep warm' but out of desire to join the others who are also freezing to death...they decide to toss the fire out their windows????
* when they are going into the subway for 'santa fe' and go into the F train with orange seats and colorful billboards...but then the next shot in the movie..all the seats are black and the ads are all scratched off?
* When they sing about Thelma and Louise...which was in the 90's...yet it takes place in 1989?
* When we don't get an answer as to who paid for ANgel's expensive funeral when they were all broke to begin with.
* When they reveal Allison and Benny were having marital problems.
* The Bon Jovi tribute/Britney Spears..'Im not a girl, not yet woman' tribute that Roger gives out in Santa Fe.
* The stage inside the Life Cafe...which there never was a stage in the Life cafe. anyone been there? the real one is a small little hole in the wall.
* Halloween, Goodbye Love, Christmas Bells are Ringing. oh wait....they never made the picture.
oh, im sorry..it's a 'love' thread. i'm bitter. I can't love this movie...too many errors and flaws. I wanted to love it..but I can't for so many reasons. as a Rent fan..I was truly dissapointed..and embarrased fro Chris COlumbus.
I kinda wished SPike Lee would've done it as originally planned. It would've been real and gritty..not this crimson color rendition with lots of errors and inconsistencies. and a WAAAYYY too dark 'out tonight' where you can't even see Rosario singing...and really badly edited. Some shots and angles were horrendous.
sorry.

There seriously wasn't a part of the movie I didn't love. Going tomorrow for my 6th time.
I loved every minute of it.
Seen it 6 times and plan to see it a billion more.
I loved the film. I've seen it 3 times, and I cried during every single viewing. I've also watched the clips on the Rent blog about a million times.
Favorite moments:
--Mark in the intro to La Vie Boheme
--"Maybe now you two can get back together"
--the gang on the street singing "There's only us" to Roger. He wasn't just fighting Mimi, he was fighting everyone that cared about him
--Roger's "I'm not alone" in "What You Own"
--random Newsies appearances!
My only complaint is that I feel like the film nver finishes the characters of Mark and Benny. Without "Halloween" or the Roger/Mark fight during "Goodbye Love", Mark is never clearly identifiedas or attacked for being the detached observer. Those moments between the two friends in the OBC are some of my favorite moments.
The movie also never explains what happens to Benny. He shows up with Mimi at Angel's funeral, and then......? I think the film at least should have referenced Allison's "pulling Benny out of the East Village location."
But all in all I really did love the film!
I know, understand and occasionally agree with some of the complaints about the movie, but why come to the LOVE thread with them? I'm glad to see most of the posts are "loving" :).
I thought of a few more moments I liked:
* Collin's mischievous expression right before he starts singing Santa Fe.
* Adams little half smile thing when Mimi throws herself at him.
* Adam's "come hither" look and smile at Mimi when he 'kidnaps' her from The Man.
* Tracie's hand movement and facial expression on the 2nd "WINE & BEER!"; kind of like "Helllloooooo, where's my damn drink fool?!" Ha.
* Angel's little bouncey bounce out the door after saying goodbye to Roger.
* The "whatever dude" look Adam had during Santa Fe; and the putting the coin in the cup.
I'll think of more I'm sure. And to address this Wax Lion thing, I'm going to see RENT tomorrow again, I'll be looking for ya!
Kass, I love Angel's little bounces. The first time I saw it, you could hear a bunch of people go "aww" when that happened.
Some of these aren't limited to the movie, but a few of the parts I loved that haven't been mentioned are:
-Angel waving goodbye to Mimi after "Rent."
-When the subway starts moving before everyone sits down in "Santa Fe" causing them to stumble a little.
-How Angel takes Collins' hand in "I'll Cover You." It's kind of slow, like she's examining it or something. The running and dancing on the sidewalk was really sweet, too.
-When the waiter in the Life Cafe tells them not to move the tables together, and someone says, "Hey, let's move these tables together!"
-All of La Vie Boheme A and B.
-The scene where they watched the ball drop from the T.V. set in the store window and celebrated in the streets.
-All the friends and parents following Joanne and Maureen during "Take Me or Leave Me."
-Everyone visiting Angel in the hospital, and Mimi painting her nails.
-The speeches at Angel's funeral. I love the "She was more of a man than he'd ever be and more of a woman than he'd ever get" comment, and how she helped the tourists find the Circle Line. I also thought it was sweet/interesting how Mark accidentally calls Angel "he" and then catches himself and says "she."
-How Collins has Angel's drumsticks after the funeral.
-When Roger sings Mimi's name at the end of "Your Eyes."
-How the closing shot is of Angel, who kind of smiles at the end.
Apparently, I really like Angel.

me too! It's so not okay for the critics to bash on this... lol... who do they think they are... experts?? he he. Jesse L. Martin is my new hero! He was AMAZING!!! I loved seeing most of the original cast because I only got to see the traveling casts!
*snicker*
I think I found my funny moment winner when Adam dances in LVB. There's this one short part where he's bouncing around alone in the background, and I'm almost embarassed for him. He's so attractive that it just doesn't matter, though! He can flail, and still look pretty good doing it.
I don't think I have a favorite moment in the movie overall, though. There are too many moments to love. Plot-wise, it's probably when Roger goes to Life Support. But in terms of what simply looks great..... I have no idea.
I saw the movie for my 4th time last night and I finally noticed wax lion ...yay for 4 inch lions...we all love you waxie...and by the way...tracie looks amazing in the movie and so does Idina
taboo, honestly, we respect your opinion but we've done enough ripping apart of this movie,. this is the place for LOVE!! Thank you.
Oh, how much did I love Jesse's smile, in Santa Fe when Adam drops a coin in the cup and he sings..."Nice!" And Angels "ese huevito quiere sal" TOO funny!
Also LOVED the finale when Rosario whipsers, "Roger?" she never says his name on stage! and Adam going, "I came back, baby...I got you..we got you.." ::sniff:: Tears my heart out!!
*p.s. which scene is wax lion in?? lol*
Is that definitely what he says in Spanish? It's too fast for me to pick up.
Wax Lion is in the dialogue scene right before Will I? and he's sitting on the windowsill to your left of the screen. When the camera zooms out, and you see Adam brooding, staring out the window, look left and there's a little Wax Lion!

I might be going back to RENT today, so I'll be on the look out for Waxy.
Favorite Parts
*The whole Alexi Darling scene
*Anthony dancing in Seasons of Love. Wow, that was a riot.
*La Vie Boheme A/B
*THE CLIFF!
*One Song Glory. All of it.
*When Collins meets Angel
That's all I can think of.

that's probably to coolest thing I have ever heard of. Tonight I'm going, I'll watch out for our waxlion.
favorite part of all time: when mark starts singing the chorus of tango maureen the first time and he does this little dance. love it, kills me everytime :)
i'm 99% certain that's the spanish line. I was with a friend who also speaks Spanish and thats what she heard, too...I'll be confirming with my dad soon if I can get him to see the movie!
I heard "si quieres... somethingsomething," but I'm hardly fluent.
Si quieres something sal...? ...
Yeah, that's what I heard. If you want something something. EverythingIsRENT is probably right on this count.
I love the movie! My favorite random moments are
*Rosario smacking Adam to get him to stop eating during "Take Me or Leave Me"
*Actually, pretty much Rosario's face during that entire scene.
*La Vie Boheme - I really thought that entire number was really well done - it made me want to get up and dance, and I am NOT a get up and dance kind of girl.
*During Tango:Maureen when Idina, Anthony and Tracie are all dancing together, and Idina winks. I don't know why, but I find that hysterical. And very hot.
*Anthony's face when Adam walks into the life support meeting - woah. I'm reduced to only saying woah.
*The first few notes of "Out Tonight" - I think it works really well and it made me happy in a vaguely fangirl way to see her behind bars with a kimono on.
Eh, I love the entire movie. I've even found ways to love the parts that aren't so great. Usually, by making a joke of them...

Hi Everyone. Longtime Rent fan, first time poster here (Not sure if I qualify as a Renthead, since I have seen the stage muusical only twice, in San Francisco.) Loved the movie. This may sound weird, but I thought Taye Diggs did a great job as Benny. In the stage show I wondered why everyone was even somewhat friendly with him, but in the movie, you got to see his facial expressiions, and you felt like he had some inner conflict going on. He acted like the unfeeling landlord, but you could tell he got a kick out of the antics of his old friends. At Maureen's pefoormance, he was chuckling and smiling, but as soon as his father in law came iin, he got very stern.

The only thing I felt was lacking in the movie was the second part of Goodbye Love. I love the Roger/Mark fight, the mimi/RRoger showdown and just the exchange even atter that. The other songs deleted would have added nothing to the plotline that was missing I think.

for us non spanish speakers.. would anyone mind translating
ese huevito quiere sal, or whatever you guys decided it was?
EDIT: i tried an online translation thing, and all i got was " that huevito wants salt"
"that egg wants salt!" it's something my grandmother used to say whenever someone had an ulterior motive for doing something lol.
