I apologize for yet another RENT thread and I have no clue if this one will last but I've grown tired of the speculations and reviews threads, so I thought I'd give my own a try. Throw stones if you must but I guarantee you I won't feel them.
I did love the movie. Could it have been better? Yes. Could it have been worse with pop stars and the like? Yes. Moving on now......
"Merry Christmas Bitches!!" was definitely the best line IMO.
Loved the "gains, gains, gains" moment on the subway.
Anthony rocking out alone in LVB-B was priceless.
What were your favorite moments?
Come on, don't be shy. Those of you who loved the movie, show it.
EDIT: Put title in all caps...shameless I know but gotta support the movie.
ME 2! the movie was incredible. i really don't think the movie would've been better with celebrities....i think it would have made it worse. The original cast is great and I would never want "christina" (for example) to replace one of them.
ok...i REALLY need to see this movie a few more times <3

"They're singing, "Happy Birthday"
You just wanna lay down and cry
Not just another birthday, it's 30/90
Why can't you stay 29
Hell, you still feel like you're 22
Turn 30 in 1990
Bang! You're dead, what can you do?"

Based on my puffy eyes as I walked out of the theatre, and those of almost every other audience member-I'd say this movie has got plenty of love-no matter what critics say!
"Are you sorry for civilization? I am sorry for it too." ~Coast of Utopia: Shipwreck
Ok. Alright. You got me. I'll admit it, I loved it, and the more negative things I read about it, the more my affection grows.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson
I have to admit, there were two parts I really loved. The first is Today 4U.I think that was done very well.I also loved Out Tonight.Rosario does an incredible job as Mimi.Despite what people are saying, they could have done a lot worse in casting than her and Tracie Thoms. I think Rosario is looking at major award nominations for her portrayal(Hopefully Oscar).

HA! "Merry Christmas, bitches!"........we should get cards with that or something......hehe....but, we must not forget "Hey, Collins; don't get your ass kicked this time!"
Yay for RENT love! I loved this movie. The whole damn thing. I don't care what critics say or how it does at the box office, that doesn't influence my feelings about the movie. I've seen it seven times so far, and it gets better all the time. I love this movie, and that's all that matters to me. Whew.' A few random things I loved that you can only appreciate after seeig it 7 times: Swissshh!!! Wax Lion Mark hands the eyebrow The cliff, come on it's a magical place Joanne drunk during New Year's Collin's putting his finger in Mark's dimple during LVB
This IS a RENT movie love thread response, I promise, but I agree with you that the movie is not without flaws. In my opinion, I think that the worst thing about it is the editing. It's obvious that there were many takes of each scene, due to the poor continuity in editing and the alternate shots that wound up in the movie that were different in the trailers. In the trailers we see, among some things, Mimi walking alongside a fence, Mimi in a different outfit during OUT TONIGHT, Anthony in a black suit (original Memorial Service costume?) and Angel throwing her arms and head up at the end of TODAY 4 U. Examples of the weird (some might call minor) editing that made it into the movie are the quarter on Angels pickle tub, Angels wig, Rogers hair ("trim her tree) and the dancing in TODAY 4 U, Angels placement in SANTE FE...and there were numerous other continuity problems, but I pass all of these off as "bloopers". Some would say that they OVERSHOT this film. And what's with the fuzzy digitalness in the middle of TODAY 4 U? When Angel's on the end table..."Like Thelma & Louise Did When They Got The Blues..."? It's right up there with Collins mysterious disappearing act on the bar during La Vie Boheme. It is a bit of a shame, because the cinematography in this film is stunning. At least the editing doesn't really take away from the end product because the talent is so amazing. That being said, YES! I loved this movie. I think that's a testament to why I'm able to find the flaws within it. I've worked with the Broadway incarnation of RENT since 1999, so it's part of who I am. That being said...this is what I loved about the movie...
Collins "You are druunk." Angel "No'm not." *** Collins "You gonna put that trash can back?" Angel "No."
Mimi "So...you a tough guy?"
Joanne's pouty/mad/frustrated expression right before "Why do we love when she's mean?", The Television's during OVER THE MOON, Joanne briefly singing under-her-breath during OTM, Angel kicking ass during the riot, Angel's "pinky" hello to Mark during the first life support, Mimi's expressions during TAKE ME OR LEAVE ME, All of the nods to the original choreography they kept during Candle, Today 4 U, Glory, Out Tonight, Another Day, La Vie Boheme, all of the original costume pieces, Joanne's crying...okay I've got to stop. I could go on all day...
I think the show was awesome BUT I don't think there will be any acting Oscar nominations, especially in light of the reviews--many critics felt the original cast was too old. Who are the obvious nomineees in this ensemble piece?
Wax Lion doesn't think that JHartnow meant any harm at nitpicking the film. As he stated, he loved the movie and says that it's only because of that love that allows him to cover the movie from all aspects. Wax Lion totally understands that, after all JHartnow works with the show.
So, everyone saw little 'ole Wax Lion in the film, huh? Maybe this should be a Wax Lion love thread? Naw, no point in thread jacking. But, Wax Lions favorite parts in the movie will always be those with the beautiful and talented Tracie Thoms. Those eyes...that hair...her voice. We did the tango once...it wasn't very pretty.
