RENT SCREENPLAY
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#75
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:23pmIt's going to be really interesting to see how they handle the dialogue that has been changed to spoken but is still partially in lyric form. Sorry if that was confusing...I think if you've read it you'll get what I meant...

"I think the Chbosky screenplay was a lot more artistic and powerful for those who are already fans of the show, but I can see why this version will work better both logistically and for the general public."
the second screenplay has to be done. the chbosky one wouldn't have as much public appeal cause only ppl who have seen the show would understand it.
WHY isn't my icon working?? brb have to fix it...

Yeah-the speaking parts will be interesting.
Do you think Idina will moon the camera at the end of "over the moon" or just during "la vie..."
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#78
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:25pmRight, exactly. But I still love it. I think it's the fanfic author in me. And your icon is working...
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#79
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:27pmDid anyone else have the problem of singing along to the dialogue? lol
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#80
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:27pm
yeah i just reloaded it.
i hope maureen moons the camera in the first place! it doesn't say anything about it... and it would probably be pushing the ratings... i'll check if she does moon benny... brb again...
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#81

It says she moons him...and i'd think they would at least get a shot of it.
I am so excited right now.
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#82
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:32pmWell, there's definitely a strip tease in Out Tonight...
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#83
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:32pm
yeah, she does moon benny.
"Maureen moons Benny's table. Benny doesn't blink, [no kidding, i'm sure taye want's to see his wife's, oh, nvm] but his investors and step-father [shouldn't it be father-in-law?] do.
i'll see if she does in over the moon.

"Well, there's definitely a strip tease in Out Tonight..."
i love the idea of angel and mimi dancing together, this is one of my favorite scenes right now, from the sound of it...
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#85
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:34pmI dont think a bare butt would push rating, but who knows these days lol
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#86
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:34pmno, maureen doesn't moon the camera @ the end of over the moon, the riot starts before she gets a chance to.
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#87
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:38pm
lol, too many threads to follow at once!
I liked how the screenplay made a point to show that Benny incited the riot. The musical isnt all that clear of who started what.

"I dont think a bare butt would push rating, but who knows these days lol"
thats what i was thinking.
so, new topic, away from butts... what does everyone think about the finale, with mark's movie projected on all the buildings?
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#89
Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:39pmI like it. Because there's no real good way to bring Angel back at the end like they do in the show, but I'd hate to lose that.

BEKA531 - you made a comment that the "the second screenplay has to be done. the chbosky one wouldn't have as much public appeal cause only ppl who have seen the show would understand it."
Are we reading the same screenplay? The screenplay I have of Chbosky makes complete sense without knowledge of the stage show. If I may ask, is the "Chbosky" screenplay you are referring to the "Screenplay #1" from that link on CB? If not I apologize... I have just read a couple people who were confused. The Chbosky script (Which I adore, and regard as brilliant for the most part) I read is very thorough and character-driven. Anyway, I'd love to have a conversation about the works, and it appears I may have just engaged in one! Take care.

Posted: 11/21/04 at 8:41pmI think it will resonate great on screen and will give the audience a huge emotional reaction right before the credits come up. If it is done right I believe that it will be the deciding factor come Oscar time.

"there's no real good way to bring Angel back at the end like they do in the show"
i like it too. and i agree, there are definitely a lot more liberties on the stage, they can't just bring angel back in the movie. it'd be so random.

lol, I'd admit, its a little corny, but it works. And Angel closing out the film is a great touch. I'd also imagine that you'd see Angel, then the screen would fade and say something about 'film dedicated to Jonathan Larson, 1960-1996'
btw, this is my 1000th post

"'film dedicated to Jonathan Larson, 1960-1996'"
yes, they DEFINITELY should. i will be very upset if they dont.
"btw, this is my 1000th post"
congratulations! i just past my 100th a post ago i think... thats pretty good (or bad?) considering i've only been here for about 2 weeks

100 is good. It took me two weeks to start posting.
magic, there are two Chbosky screenplays. Both are credited to him, but one is edited by Columbus. The one we're referring to as "the Chbosky version" is from 2000 or so. The Columbus one is much newer.

lol, thanks. and it appears I'm nothing (formerly a Broadway star, now I'm blank lol)
Oscar time. Hm, I hope the Oscar people don't hold the subject matter against the film, assuming its good. I wonder Wilson will be able to turn a Joel Grey...
re: RENT SCREENPLAY#98

everyone deserves an oscar. enough said.
we should bring it up after we've seen it, which will be A YEAR! i dont know if i can wait that long!!! in the meantime, i think im seeing it again on broadway soon, yay
this was brough up somewhere, but does anyone know the criteria for a "best new song in a movie" oscar? are these songs "new" or not, since they were in the musical first?
timote, it says you're a legend.
