More like a half hour north of Manhattan. Can't wait till tomorrow!
Wow, taking a bus in from boston! (please don't wear a red sox hat!)
I have no idea where to go stand for the taping or anything. I'll probably leave my apartment at 5:30 to go down there. But now I am concerned- should i set my VCR to start taping at 7 or just leave it be at like, 8:15?
THe RENT site they will be performing between 8:30 and 9.
I hope you guys have fun ... I'll be at home .. taping it ... sobbing.
I'm so excited to see what they're going to perform. I'm sooo gonna be like, spazzing. Seriously.

I heard that you stand directly diagonal from the ice rink. I think its on 49th st.? I know for sure that they block off the area where the concert is and that there are barricades so it will probably be easy to recognize from that.
I would just say start taping at 7 and keep it on EP (Extended play) because they might mention Rent a lot in the hour or two coming up to the performance or show some clips.
Also: If we all get into the front of the barricades, Al Roker or someone might talk to us and you'd want to have that on tape too! haha

Barricades!!!!
Ooops, wrong show... o_O
I just set my Tivo to record the Today Show tomorrow (sorry to those who are trying to set their VCR's- I really can't help you! I don't know how to record things on anything but Tivo... it's sad how dependent technology makes us) and "Cast of Rent performs" was part of the description!!!! *is easily amused*

My Tivo wouldn't work when we got it so my mom made me return it and won't get me a new one, so I'm stuck with VCRs once again
Any recording tips for me since you, too, are stuck with a VCR?
I taped the today show today to see if they were going to mention RENT, but they didn't, wow is that ever a boring show and how long is it anyway? It seemed like over an hour. THey mentioned Faith Hill performing on Friday, but no Rent
I'm just going to tape the whole show.
The Today Show goes from like 7 to 10.
Edit: That's probably 6 to 9 in *sings* Eastern Standard Time. I was thinking of here, in Chicago.
I like it. I enjoy turning it on in the morning, though unless I'm very ill I never sit still and watch it straight through (its really not meant for that...). Of course, I love noise. *is one to wake up, turn on the TV, turn on the computer, go to iTunes and play music on the computer while the TV is still on, and like flip through the paper while listening to music and watching TV... o_O*

We can leave after the performance right?
I think im gonna take a 3:30 train and get there around 4:30 :)
would it be possible to sleep outside the today show tonight? bc i want to have front row seats. plus ive been to the today show before and many of the guests sign autographs if they are outside either before or after taping. how likely do you think it will be for the rent cast to sign? thanks for the help.
New_philosophy, if you're asking if you can leave after the cast of RENT has performed, the answer is absolutely. I went to the Today show once, and when we got cold after an hour, we just left and went to the Starbucks in Rockerfeller.
So - tomorrow at this ungodly early hour.
Where, exactly, do you go for this?
And I can't believe people are camping out. At all.
Well, I can... but... you're all insane.
If you're camping out do you feel like saving a nice spot for MARLENE?!?!
Rockefeller Plaza, right outside the GE building (the main NBC building, the tallest one) I believe it's in between 50th and 49th
The stage will be set up outside the entrance to that building in front of the plaza where the ice skating rink would be during the winter. When you get there you'll see the stage/barricades set up, and after reading this thread, probably a slew of tents/sleeping bags as well
*EDIT* - LOL...a tent city set up outside the concert. how fitting. sorry for the dorky humor, but this week people are allowed to get away with it
Oh, I know where that is.
Well, I'll... see y'all bright and early, then.
le f*ck...TENT CITY? How can I compete with that? Maybe I should be a trooper and camp out with out AC for a night.
FYI...the Rent team is going to be there at 6:00...mugshots of them on the Rent Blog. So this means that we'll need to get there before then. Does the Today Show get an hissy fit if you bring a camping chair with you? This seems like it's going to be worse than opening night Shakespeare in the Park!

Good luck to you guys trying for the "biggest renthead" contest, or whatever it is. I'm still ticked they wouldn't allow video entries. Well, not really ticked, but slightly annoyed. I hope a BWW kid takes home the gold!
I think I'm officially frightened.
Hope the production team knows what to expect.

emcee...im with you
I am not even going to enter the contest. I forgot that they would be interviewing people there. I do think it is a little crazy to sleep there overnight. I will be arriving at sometime from 5:00am-6:00am and I hope that I will be able to get a good spot now. I am just going to be there to see them all live together and hopefully meet everyone. I am no way Rent's biggest fan and I don't deserve to win so I am not entering even if they ask me.
Someone suggested that I try for it; I'm definitely not what they're looking for, and I hardly squeal aloud in public.
I've hardly stopped smiling all day, though.
aw lol. I wish I could be in the contest (too early for my mom to agree to take me :-/), I think I could have had a shot at winning..but I'll definitely vote, its gonna be so hard, im gonna wanna vote for everybody :). See you guys at Bryant Park though.

I haven't stopped smiling either... and I won't let myself squeal in public either..even though I never really squeal for much anyways. I just get very excited inside, very calm on the outside haha. I am NOT looking forward to all the screaming fans for Idina.
Anyone making a sign?

Two years ago, my sister and I tried to be in the front row for Goo Goo Dolls. We got to Rockerfeller Plaza about 2:30 am and they had security keeping you from the Plaza until about 5:00am.
They just line you up down the block. At about 5:00 they let us in for sound check, ( don't know if there will be one tomorrow) and we were very excited about our spots. Then about 8:15, right before the actual concert starts they let all the laminated pass carrying, NBC VIP types, out into the very front section. Those are the people you usually see getting the autographs. We were so bummed. Hope all you overnighters have better luck!!

Well lets hope that they don't let you in till 5:00 am tomorrow and that they dont have many VIPs :)
