Hi everyone. Well, We drove up to SD today to see the opening night show of RENT. I decided to come along cuz the tickets were free and after reading all these horrific reviews of the current cast, I was thinking twice about actually buying tickets to this show.
Anyways, needless to say we are in SD for the day and I just wanted to see if anyone knew where the stage door was. I saw an entrance at the side/back of the theater that said "artists entrance". Is that where the cast leaves the theater too? If that is not the stage door, could one of you please let me know where it is located? Does this cast come out and take pics/sign/etc? Or are they not really approachable?
I hope this topic doesn't exist yet. I did a brief search and didn't come up with anything.
I'm going this Thursday! I'm really excited about it.
What do you mean by the "horrific reviews"? I have no idea who is in the touring cast.
The stage door is on the left side of the theater as you face it towards the rear....it looks like a big garage and it's close to the trolley tracks. Enjoy the show.

I'm not sure what you mean about "all these horrific reviews". Most reviews I've read have enjoyed this cast tremendously. There are a couple of 'weak links' but overall this is an extremely talented group of young performers. In any case, see the show and form your own opinions. If you ask at the theatre, they'll tell you where the stage door is. And, yes, this cast is very gracious about signing autographs and posing for pics.
Just curious...who's in the touring cast right now?
San Diego was the first place where I saw Rent...loved it so much I went back the next day to watch it again. It has special memories for me.

Local San Diego boy Warren Nolan Jr. is playing Collins. We are very proud!

brdlwyr, there's only one tour, and you've made your opinion known several times. Contrary to what you'd like to believe, not everyone agrees with your assessment of this cast. Let others see the show and form their own opinions.

Erin, good point! If this is your only exposure to a stage production of Rent - then take the risk.
I do not believe that everyone agrees with my assessment of the tour! I hope that all could experience Rent, but not the nonsene that is on tour now!
How do you know if the tour/cast is Union or Non-Union?
The tour is mentioned on the offical Rent website, so why wouldn't it be Union?

The Rent tours have been non-Equity since 2001. Why would mention of it on the official site mean that it's an Equity tour? I don't understand what you mean. It's the current national tour of the show and it's non-Eq, as are many national tours these days.
