The Lincoln Center BARNES & NOBLE closes its doors tomorrow, Jan 2. Has anyone been over there recently? I think I'm going to go up today and see if there are any bargains...
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

ugh- so sad. I'll admit I didn't buy much there, but their accommodation of performances and theatre-related signings was fantastic. Plus, it was a great place to chill before a show at the Lincoln Center or a movie at the amc theatre a block up.
That being said, I do most of my in-store book shopping at Three Lives & Co....

So sad. I remember when it opened. I hate to see it go.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
It was a favorite place of mine to kill time before seeing a performance at LCT or The Met. I will miss it.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
Does anyone know if they'll be offering their remaining items on sale/clearance, or will they just transfer everything to the other B&N stores in the city?

I was in last Sunday and they didn't really have a lot on sale. There were a few clearance tables here and there, but not as many as I was expecting. I assumed they're just transferring whatever's remaining to other stores in the city.
I'm really upset to see this store go. They had a great selection of merchandise and were great for CD signings/performances. It was a great place to visit whenever I was seeing a LCT show. Looks like I'll be spending more time at Union Square, where my second favorite Barnes in the city is.
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
That place is so tacky and gross. It doesn't even make sense for the area. As an UWS resident, I don't understand why it's aiming for that area, which (to my experience) is largely made up of people who, well... don't shop at Century 21.

Nope -- no sales. Clearance tables of calendars, greeting cards, Christmas stuff, and an odd selection of books. All stock will go to other stores.

Maybe... idk- I'm thinking Century 21 is that big mothball closet that also seems to be having a sale of the most basic and ugly clothes this side of the Salvation Army. Kind of like Dress Barn but bigger?

When Century 21 opens you will not believe the foot traffic of trash that will infiltrate and congest the neighborhood. I dread it.
I will miss the Lincoln Center BN and Im still mourning the Times Square Virgin Megastore.

Yes, it is very sad. And the older you get, the more of these places you get to see disappear, with regret. I think back to Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, Footlight Records, Howard Johnson's on 46th St., the Automat on Broadway, Mamma Leone's, Longchamps, not to mention the theatres: Morosco, Helen Hayes, 54th Street, Ziegfeld, Playhouse, Hudson, Bijou, off-Broadway's Variety Arts, Zipper, Promenade, Grove Street Playhouse, so many more.
Noel Coward wrote a song "Nothing Can Last Forever," and it's the sad, sad truth.
If the coliseum were in NY, it would have been deemed old & useless years ago & torn down years ago. We have lost so much of our history it is criminal.
this B&N is the only one I remember what I bought from them. A number of times they were the only place to find certain DVDs and CDs without paying Colony prices. And it was only 18 months ago that I combed through their used books and found a coffee table book covering Jackie Kennedy's televised tour of the White House before JFK was assassinated. It was definitely one of the more unique store-bought gifts I've given my mother.
