Interestingly enough, she won the Tony as a featured performer for playing Rose in the original production of Fences. For the 2010 Broadway revival, Viola Davis won the Tony for her portrayal as Rose as a lead. When Viola went on to reprise it in the 2016 film adaptation, she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

I think she won an Emmy for I’ll Fly Away which I loved.

Wished I had seen her, I saw the show when the original cast had left, Billy Dee Williams had taken over the role of "Troy".
