Yes, the revised Flower Drum Song was as horrible as you say.
But you haven't yet seen this new Cinderella, so, really, you don't know just how bad Beane's work is. I would say it wasn't as bad as Hwang's, but as you know, that's not a great compliment, and truth is, it's not much better.
Wait till you see it for yourself, and then you will be able to judge and comment accordingly.
To celebrate Mother's Day (weekend), hubby and I decided to catch MOTOWN: THE MUSICAL. So knowing the Sat. matinee was sold out, we donned our comfy sneakers and did standing room. (It's an easy stand, especially in the center, which has a lower back wall of the orchestra than the sides do.) Pretty much what we thought: the book ranges from silly to dumb, so in that sense it's no JERSEY BOYS. But the music/dancing is what audiences come to see. While Valisia LeKae was fine musically as Diana Ross, I still can't understand why she was nominated for Best Actress in a musical, We found her acting lackluster and blah. But Charl Brown's Smokey Robinson lived up to his character's first name on all counts--that Featured nom is well deserved.
