This dynamic singer, the original Cosette in Les Mis and Christine in the Canadian Phantom, is long overdue for a Broadway engagement of some kind.
Any other admirers out there? Let's not make this a 'Who's better as Christine' thread.

I love her. She's hilarious on Twitter, as well.
But I'm fine with her not being on Broadway. I don't think it was ever really her thing.

Typically she does, but often does solo musical/opera cabarets (see You Tube) and regularly one called Three Phantoms in which she performs with three former Phantoms. She also did a revival of the musical Salad Days this spring in the West End.
Opera or not, I'd shell out a mortgage payment to see her in NYC.

Posted: 9/5/11 at 9:44pmHer Twitter IS great. Couldn't agree more. Incredible wit and charm, not to mention genuine. Caine was a relative newbie during the original Les Mis so her interpretation of Lupone events clearly left an impression I'd trust. She hints, but doesn't kiss and tell. And Caine calls a spade a spade, even if in subtle ways.

Please, do tell...

Rebecca posted after Lupone's memoir came out something to the effect of "Patti Lupone has added writing fiction to her list of accomplishments," but she never once elaborated when asked.
Inevitably, someone is going to bring up the Jonas feud. She met him at the Les Mis O2 concert and posted that she found him incredibly charming and added him to those she follows. But then she unfollowed him some time later as her Twitter was overrun with Nick Jonas postings from fans. The fans got wind of it and all but crucified her.

Posted: 9/5/11 at 10:01pmWhat part of LuPone's book did she have a problem with? C'mon people, don't make me beg...
Rebecca Caine #11
Posted: 9/5/11 at 10:03pmShe wasn't specific. She basically just made a blanket comment. Though, one would assume it had to do with the Les Mis stuff, since that's when she and Patti were working together.

Posted: 9/5/11 at 10:04pm@blaxx - She never specified. She made the one comment and that was it. I'd imagine it had something to do with the orig. production of Les Mis.

I found the tweet:
"how marvelous that Patti LuPone can now add fiction writing to her long lists of accomplishments"
She very well could have just been joking around.

^Never thought about it that way. Might be possible. Yet Caine has referred to Patti as "Loopy Lupone" a few times following that. Again, could have been joking on Rebecca's part. I haven't read Lupone's book so I don't know what she has to say about the original London run. I do know there was some unhappiness in the company during the initial run. General cast stuff.
Back to the original topic, Rebecca gives large concerts as well as intimate cabarets frequently throughout the year. Would be incredible to see her have an NYC engagement. Search her out on YouTube to see. An NYC audience would not be disappointed.

I read Patti's book back when it came out last year, and I don't have the text in front of me, so my details are kind of fuzzy. Here's what I remember:
1. I believe Patti wrote that there was talk at the time of another singer recording "I Dreamed A Dream" at the time of the London premiere, which pissed Patti off (a la Streisand recording SUNSET BLVD songs). She might have walked out of rehearsals/performances and had to be calmed down by Trevor Nunn.
2. She recounts (as she's often done) the incident when she got out of costume and turned her intercom off during a performance, only to miss her final entrance in the show because she was reading Vogue and smoking in her dressing room.
Other than that, I'd say the LES MIS section is decidedly tame. Anyone who's read the book more recently can add/amend/correct what I posted.

Those are two reasons as to why I feel that LuPone is just unprofessional and a little off her rocker.

Posted: 9/6/11 at 8:46amYou wouldn't be pissed off--even just a bit--if the producers of your show wanted someone else to record your signature song before you?
Rebecca Caine #20
Posted: 9/6/11 at 8:55amWould I be pissed if someone was recording my signature song prior to me? Yes, I very well may be. However, I judge professionalism on how well one deals with getting difficult or frustrating news. I am not saying that she had no right to be upset (specially since it had happened to her before with Sunset) but I feel that that she was unprofessional in how she dealt with the news.

Posted: 9/6/11 at 10:25amMy opinion is that by doing those things, she's hurting the audience as well. The audience had nothing to do with the producers' actions and they paid to see the show done properly. I would be extremely angry if I saw a production and Fantine missed her final entrance, which is a crucial part of the show.

I don't think she really tries to excuse herself, though. She admits that it was one of the dumbest things she's ever done.
I also seem to remember Patti writing that she was supposed to be paid commensurate to the highest paid RSC actors and she found out she wasn't.
