Rebecca LaChance in Beautiful tour

"Beautiful " is in Rochester, NY this week and I'm looking forward to seeing it on Friday. I was surprised to find out that Rebecca LaChance is playing Carole King, not Abby Mueller. I'm a little disappointed as I was curious to see Abby - does anyone know why she's not performing here? Is she on vacation? At any rate, I know Rebecca was in the original cast and I'm sure she'll be good, too.

I just checked Rebecca's Twitter-She is only with the tour company for 2 weeks-Rochester and Buffalo. Abby is probably on vacation or has something else lined up, but should be back for the Philadelphia stop.

I'm really disappointed we won't be seeing Abby Mueller in Buffalo! I was really looking forward to seeing her...but I'm sure LaChance will be wonderful.

I saw Rebecca go on for Jessie on Broadway and she is superb in the role. Anyone seeing her won't be disappointed.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I will be seeing Beautiful when it comes to Salt Lake in November. I hope Abbey is still on tour.

Not to be confused with Dave19.

Rebecca LaChance in Beautiful tour

Just wanted to report that I saw this on Friday with Rebecca and I thought she was indeed very, very good. Unfortunately, our seats were farther back than I realized, and the Auditorium Theater is such a barn that I wasn't really able to catch her (or anyone else's) expressions. Had I thought to check my tickets and the seating chart I would have brought my opera glasses. But I thought she sang beautifully and her acting was fine. I did think her Brooklyn accent was a bit over-heavy at the start but I don't think she's the first one to struggle with that (I understand that might have been an acting choice, too.)

As I'm just the right age for this show (mid-50s), of course I loved it. My favorite aspect was the way they presented the songs "in development," so you could feel that you were hearing them for the very first time. That, along with the Goffin/King story being juxtaposed with the Mann/Weil story made it more interesting than your standard jukebox musical. I thought the supporting cast was generally very good, with Becky Gulsvig as Cynthia Weil and Ben Fankheiser as Barry Mann being standouts for me. Was slightly less crazy about Liam Tobin as Gerry Goffin - I thought his singing was fine, but his acting was a little inconsistent. On the other hand, it's a more complicated role and he isn't given a huge amount of time to develop a character. Overall, a really fun night at the theater and I'd definitely recommend the touring production if you can't get to Broadway.

Rebecca is a rising star. Haven't seen her in this but I've been following her career since I saw her perform in a concert of Heidi and Stew years ago. From her track record and word of mouth as the Broadway understudy... she shouldn't dissapoint.

We just came back from the Buffalo performance of Beautiful and Abby Mueller is indeed playing Carole King - and she is absolutely amazing! Fantastic show!

Happy to report Abby Mueller was indeed in Buffalo for the week, and what a performance she gave! Hard to imagine anyone topping what I saw last night.

I also hope that Becky Gulsvig gets to take over at some point on Broadway for Cynthia Weil. A great showcase for her.

I remember people trashing the book when the show premiered a few years back...but I find it infinitely more interesting than the annoying narration used in JERSEY BOYS.

Seriously, why bother putting the season in?! I love that someone's said, 'wait, it won't be Fall in Australia...they call it Autumn!'.

As another aside, I'm hoping for Esther Hannaford!
