Recouped first

With the announcement of An Act of Gods recoupment today and also being the first this season to recoup. What shows were the first to recoup in their seasons?

I'm guessing It's Only a Play from last season, maybe Betrayal from the one before

Pretty safe to say Hamilton is the first musical of the season to recoup.

I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say that maybe Gypsy from 1989. Tyne Daly has said that they toured first because the producers wanted to make sure they'd get their money back. They only transfered after that and the show opened in November.

Please, somebody do correct me if I am wrong; again, this is just a guess.

Hamilton has not recouped. They do not yet HAVE the money to pay back their investors. Is it a technicality? Yes, but an important one. If the theater were to burn to the ground, they would be the ones to lose.

Additionally, recouping FIRST has little meaning...as shows all open at different times and, naturally, have different capitalization. The comparison is not equal.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Is there a place where one can go to see what shows throughout history have recouped?

@dramamama-

but you would have to agree that it will be the first to recoup...

and if the theatre were to burn down, I would expect them to be up and running again in 2 weeks somewhere else. the prospect of losing a few mil lubricates the wheel pretty well...

I would think it'd be longer than two weeks. You'd need to find an available theatre, acquire the theatre, construct new sets, get new costumes and props, load in, tech the show in the new space, etc. Plus you must take into account the cost that would be involved with all this, which could further delay things.

If Hamilton burned to the ground they would be just fine. In fact, it would only add to the insane hype of the show.

@Ginger-my 2 weeks was in the nature of "a NY minute" but money would be no object; they've got plenty and their insurance would want off the risk asap. Losing 1.5 mil a week in revenue is nothing to sneeze at.

I've sometimes visited this place, but it's incomplete, has only recent history, and hasn't been updated since April 2015. http://broadwaybrain.com/history-of-recoups/

It would only show how hot the show is... even the theater couldn't handle the heat that show has...
