I guess Beautiful Noise is the latest and fastest example of an equity tier 5 contract. Does the cast now make more money or just the producers?

Once a Level 2 – 7 tour recoups, minimum salaries increase by 17%

Impressive for the A Beautiful Noise tour to recoup in just 5 months.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

It’s funny they announced recoupment immediately after they did a 4 city loop of Florida. I.e. all the retired boomers in Florida helped them cross the finish line.

This is slightly misleading.  If the actors are making minimum, then their salary will increase.  But most principals, who are making more than minimum, will have that additional money absorbed into the extra money they are receiving.   Where ALL the actors benefit, if they are on a Tier 3-7 contract, is in overages (profit participation they receive as part of their contracts).   When a show recoups, the percentage of profit participation that each actor receives automatically increases.  So they make more money when the show does well.   On a show like Beautiful Noise, where the actors are making overages regularly, they will all benefit from the new post-recoupment rate.

This is the benefit of subscription series, guarantees, and a four-quadrant show that appeals to non-theatre folk. Success odds can be much better on the road.

The tour has been selling extremely well, too.

I cannot recall a tour announcing a shows recouping. There maybe a reason for this and that being all tours do recoup, as how I understand this complex market, that tours do not rely on ticket sales like they do in New York, but will get paid a set fee to perform by a cities theatre owner regardless of how many tickets gets sold.

It is up to that cities theatre promoter to put the best package of shows together, as to sell expensive subscriptions packages. Hence with the popularity of Hamilton promoters used this to sell packages, as it was anticipated that tickets to buy would be difficult.
