Posted: 4/6/11 at 8:53pmI probably don't think it's a good thing that I can't stop laughing at the artwork. It really does look like Mamma Mia! Oy...

Natalie also looks a bit...mature for her age.

"but I just don't get the Dutch casting. How can you be familiar with Next to Normal and say to yourself "you know what this show needs? A rape-faced Mr. Smith playing Dan."
Wim always looks creepy in pictures. He's most famous for playing badguys like Javert. But he has an amazing voice!
But he's the only guy with the right age who can sing the score! It's sad, but I can't think of an other guy who's better for the part.

Bert La Bonte is going to be the only decent thing about the Melbourne production. I'm embarrassed in advance of the mess MTC makes of it. Directed by Dean Bryant whose recent restaging of his own work Prodigal was a hot mess.
Sigh.

N2N Melbourne Set:
:-/. I assume it'll look better in reality.

^ Interesting. I would imagine the model is to scale of the actual theater. It looks like the way the building is designed, there's TOO much space between the edge of the stage and the where the actual set is, though. Would be ideal if the portion in front of the lighting trees was on a hydraulic lift and could be lowered to accommodate more seating.
I imagine 4 those panels will slide on and off to create different locations/spaces.

Posted: 4/14/11 at 9:25amIt really doesn't matter what anyone here thinks of the artwork or casting. This isn't a commercial venture. It is part of a short subscription season for a resident theatre company. As rosscoe said earlier is is practically sold out already.

The photos aren't a next to normal thing, they're a Melbourne Theatre Company thing.
All promo photos of this year's season look pretty tragic. The photography department must have been raped by the budget...
