"You mean no one can come up with an original musical to showcase Reba's innumerable talents? That all they can think of is to offer her a star part in a revival of a third-rate 1960's musical. (Is it any wonder 2/3 of it was cut from the screen version?) "

AGREED!!

I agree as well. She's talented, she's a star, and she would draw in a crowd. Aren't those qualities enough for someone to write her a vehicle to showcase all of her talents? (Or at least pick a better show for her?)

I think they will both be great.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

After their deadly productions of Pal Joey and Bye, Bye Birdie, it pains me mightily that Roundabout has the audacity to try Anything Goes, one of the most fun musicals ever written at any time with a joyous score without a single clinker in it. I'm rather indifferent to Sutton Foster as a rule -- don't hate her but certainly don't idolize her either. But she's just WRONG for Reno Sweeney and, no, I can't think of anyone around today who could do justice to the part.

Reba already turned down the opportunity to headline a revival of WHOREHOUSE because she allegedly thought the role of Mona was too easy a fit, so I really doubt she is chomping at the bit to play MOLLY BROWN. This sounds like a made up story of producers hoping to woo her rather than any real interest from McEntire.

A few ideas for new musicals to build around Reba:

The Eyes of Tammy Faye
Down South Diva: The Judy Canova Story
Trixie's Turn (Paper Moon from Trixie Delight's point of view)
Murder at the Grand Old Opry
Erin Brokovitch, the Musical!

Presumably this is for next season. There wouldn't be rumors with very specific casting 2 years in advance for a revival.

In general, I'm neutral about Sutton Foster as a performer, but I really don't want her as Reno Sweeney. She's all wrong for it.

Anything to get Reba back on Broadway is ok by me.

Roundabout also publicly tried to woo her for Anything Goes awhile back (and later, ironically, tried to get Catherine Zeta-Jones).

Encores has tried to get Reba to do Molly Brown for years, but I remember her saying she was very interested and keen on returning to Broadway, but wanting to play a role that was completely against type for her.

Well, if she wants to play against type, here are some new musical ideas for her:

Hildy! (musical of His Girl Friday)
What Are You Doing Down There?; the Mary Kay Letourneau Musical
They Call Me Ramona Africa
The Last Empress

I'd really like to see Reba play Fosca in Passion.

"Reba McIntyre is a very talented woman. Very talented. But isn't she a bit, well, long in the tooth to play Molly Brown?"

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

is that how Reba looks in hi def? She fared better than Liz Lemon did.

I remember hearing she turned down WHOREHOUSE for that very reason, MichaelBennett. And the next theatrical gig she took was SOUTH PACIFIC. I thought, "Yup, she wants a challenge next." And why not? At the time, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN was a big step and a huge challenge. (it was right before her sitcom.) I seriously doubt she bites at MOLLY.

If Sutton is doing "Anything Goes" who else would you like to see cast in the other roles?

I would shell out big bucks to see Reba do ANYTHING. Her performance in ANNIE was absolutely astonishing. And I, for one, am interested to see how Roundabout handles ANYTHING GOES. Maybe Marshall will redeem herself with this one.

Funny, I just watched it myself and thought about what a disaster this is going to be with Sutton.

At least we'll be able to understand the lyrics.

I don't think Molly Brown is really suited to a full-out revival. Encores, sure. But even a limited run? It's such a boring and run of the mill score. The fact that it's even remembered seems like a fluke to me.

I wonder how many nay sayers of THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN saw the original Broadway production in 1960. If they had they would have seen a star turn take a pleasant musical and turn it into an exciting evening at the theatre.Tammy Grimes was that electric star, and Reba McIntire could perform in a like way. I don't think you would be disappointed. You can't go by the movie. Debbie Reynolds, as likable as she may be as that little girl from Burbank, is no Tammy Grimes or Reba McIntire.
