Apparently Foster did the Molly Brown workshop as a favor to Kathleen Marshall who has cast her as Reno in Anything Goes at Roundabout.
The want Reba for The Unsinkable Molly Brown.

Not knowing the show at all ( Molly Brown ), but wouldn't Reba be a better fit for Anything Goes?
Sutton seems miscast

Reba would be great in either role but Molly Brown is perfect for her.
Foster, for me, lacks the sex appeal for Reno. She'd be a great Bonnie or Erma or whatever she will be called in this version but it's too small a role for Foster to take.
We get a nice Kathleen Marshall break and now we have to see two revivals from her in one season?

So far next season seems like a really boring season for revivals.

Posted: 5/21/10 at 2:19amReba is hard to cast? Annie, Anything Goes, Molly Brown, Best Little Whorehouse...that's just off the top of my head.

I'm baffled by the hard to cast comment too.
How about Call Me Madam?

Or Hello, Dolly! It's high time a non-Channing revival to happen.
Molly Brown is just such underwhelming fare. Reba will punch it up but it'd be nice to have her in a show that is as good as she is.

How is Reba hard to cast? That's hard to believe. Joe, I'd love to see her in Whorehouse! She'd be perfect.

Reba as Miss Mona would be perfect.
Hello Dolly would be great as well, but I think we need to wait for all the Channing fans to die first!

You mean no one can come up with an original musical to showcase Reba's innumerable talents? That all they can think of is to offer her a star part in a revival of a third-rate 1960's musical. (Is it any wonder 2/3 of it was cut from the screen version?)
A new show based on Molly might be called for with a fresh book and brand new score, but even so it will feel like old material revived.
I know - original musicals are a tough sell to tourists who have no point of reference on the title, but It's a sad day when there is more originality in movies and TV shows than can be seen on the Broadway stage.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 5/21/10 at 6:52amI'm all for a revival of Molly Brown with Reba, but if she is okay with doing another revival now, which I thought she had said she didn't want to do, then I wish it would be Whorehouse first.

I love both these ideas.
I'd see both in both roles.

Posted: 5/21/10 at 8:41amSutton Foster is the world's luckiest understudy. I still don't understand why she keeps being offered these plum roles. She's about as exciting to watch onstage as the grass growing. With her at the lead, this ship is sure to sink. It's a shame, because Anything Goes is a fun show that deserves a first rate revival. Roundabout will ruin another classic musical, ala Bye Bye Birdie.

Reba McIntyre is a very talented woman. Very talented. But isn't she a bit, well, long in the tooth to play Molly Brown?
But then after Bye, Bye Birdie, I don't want Roundabout anywhere near a musical. Any musical.

Molly Brown was 55 when the Titanic sunk. Rebe Mcentire is 55. Her teeth are just about the right length.

Posted: 5/21/10 at 11:58amHold on a minute. I don't think THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN is of the first rank of musicals, but it is not "third rate". I saw the original production in 1960 starring a wondrous Tammy Grimes. I loved the first act whose opening number, "I Ain't Down Yet" is, IMO, one of the best openers of ANY musical. Granted ,the second act just sits there, but with a dynamite lead and a re-write of Act Two, the show can work. The dancing adds a great deal to the enjoyment. I would see the show again with Reba McIntyre.

Come on, guys! At least get her name right: Its Reba McEntire!

I am pretty much up to see Reba in just about anything.
I think she'd be a delight in 'Call Me Madam,' or 'Whorehouse.'
I think that she was Jim Cameron's first choice to play Molly Brown in the Titanic film, but she declined because her tour schedule conflicted with filming.
