Remembering Robert La Tourneaux, the original Cowboy of 'The Boys in the Band'

Heartbreaking to read this. I knew a number of the original actors were gay, and had died of AIDS, but had never heard Robert's story. Having just watched the Berkeley Rep production of ANGELS IN AMERICA this weekend, it is impossible not to weep over the devastating loss our community had experienced. May all their memories be for a blessing.

Remembering Robert La Tourneaux, the original Cowboy of 'The Boys in the Band'

Robert and i dated back in 1975/76...we met at a local baths in Los Angeles, and he came to visit me in San Francisco...we also spent time in NYC seeing A CHORUS LINE the week before it won all its' Tony's ...he was very sweet and he really wanted a chance back then before he or i went into Gay films,  to be an actor in movies and tv...

I remember once he had me drive him to a very famous movie Director's house in Beverly Hills,  to have dinner in hopes that might lead to an acting job...which never happened...i honesty believe he only went in to adult films to make a living...

I have very fond memories of my time with Robert...

Broadwaybabywannabe2, thanks for sharing those memories.

I imagine the critically acclaimed current cast of the 50th anniversary of ''The Boys in the Band'' knows about the original one and what a legacy they leave, and on whose shoulders they stand.

Sadly so much of the original cast is gone, but happily Laurence Luckinbill and Peter White got to see this revival's opening night!
