Is it just a copy of the Michael Greif production? I was hoping for a fresh reimagining

An "anniversary" tour would be the tip-off, no?

You should have seen the 5th Avenue Theaters production in Seattle back in 2012! It was fresh, and pretty entertaining. There are some clips on YouTube if you want to check them out!
Saw the tour in Dallas. It's so weak.
The cast has little understanding of the source material. They all sit there, grinning like idiots as they're popping their AZT. It's all so undercooked and a ridiculous price for a non-eq tour.
A shame they couldn't get something more quality going for their 20th Anniversary Tour.
I'm sad to see how uninspired this looks. I had really high hopes for this. Perhaps the cast will get a better handle on the material throughout the run of the tour?

Saw the Dallas stop 3 times - had the opposite reaction the above poster did. I shared my thoughts on the other thread, but I loved this group. I wanted the original staging - I wanted the version I fell in love with in '96 - I wasn't interested in a "re-imagining". Heck, I might end up with another disaster that was the New World Stages run with pathetic sight lines, cheesy projections, and a cast swinging from monkey bars. No thanks.

I cringed. That was embarrassing

This just looks so uninspired. Low energy. La Vie Boheme sounds under-tempo. No passion. Bland, dry performances.
No way am I paying any money to see this tour. If anything, I'll stick to the 2008 filmed performance.

Eek, those clips are baaad!
I was on the fence about seeing this in person. Thanks for posting, I now know I won't be missing out!

As an aside, there's probably a cast member or two who weren't alive when the show was written.

I'm hoping they can better understand what their performing throughout their run.

I wouldn't talk anyone in to spending money they don't want to spend, but I wouldn't judge by those 1min clips. Even from week 1 to week 2 in Dallas they had grown so much. I went with several friends who (like me) have a 20 year history with the show, and every one of us was impressed. I know taste is subjective, but as someone who saw them live (and not clips), I didn't see a lack of energy or spotty characterization at all for (what it's worth.)

I hope and trust that that's the case. However, the purpose of those clips is for potential audience members to judge the production. If the B-roll is not an accurate representation of the show, the producers/press agents are doing a disservice by publishing it.
I stand by what I said. I've seen the OBC and many of the first few national touring casts of this show many years back... What is being toured now is absurd and some might call it a tad disrespectful considering how the cast glosses over some of the source material.
I never considered Rent some amazing piece of musical theater, but what I saw in Dallas was exactly what people have come to expect from these non-eq tours. Top prices, very little comprehension.
Did anyone else think the Angel looked a LOT like Lea Michelle?!? Like I couldn't stop staring and thinking it. Or am I just crazy?!? LOL!

BN2, like you - I started with the OBC and everything in between - and I respect your opinion. I just felt completely different about what I saw in Dallas, and I'm thankful I enjoyed this production as much as I did.
