BN2, like you - I started with the OBC and everything in between - and I respect your opinion. I just felt completely different about what I saw in Dallas, and I'm thankful I enjoyed this production as much as I did.
If they aren't comprehending the material a month into a run...

I saw it last night and I have to agree with many of the posters that said this was a sub-par production. Roger and Mimi's voices were less than stellar (Roger sounded whiny and Mimi was off key) and everyone just looked amateurish. The audience was really eating it up though, and showed pretty overwhelming approval after most of the songs, to the point of singing along.

Just watched the La Vie Boheme vid. That was pretty rough.

I'm sorry, Jonathan Larson. I'm sorry we've fallen so far.
Cast of the 20th Anniversary UK Tour performing Seasons of Love.
To be honest this cast seem just as bland as the US tour.
I saw the tour two nights ago, and those videos really don't capture the production well. The videos made me really worried, but the show was so good. The cast was on fire, and really seemed to pour their hearts out onstage.

Thanks Max - exactly what I was trying to say as well.

Has anybody seen the cast recently? How are they doing?

New trailer for the UK Tour. I think it looks fantastic in comparison to the current US tour!

I'm just glad they're doing something different with it. My main issue with the US tour was it was a carbon copy of the Michael Greif-directed production, down to identical costumes
Anybody seen it recently? I don't really want to see a non-equity production, but I can get really cheap seats for it.
The Roger in that UK tour video looks AWFUL. WTF? I'm not a big fan of the showy Angel choreography. And what year is it supposed to be? The costumes and hair are all over the map.

The main reason I loved it was because it was just that. My friends and I were all extremely happy that it looked like what we fell in love with in '96. To each their own

This was a production in 2012 in Seattle. It was different, but thoroughly enjoyable.

Was this the production where Jinkx Monsoon was Angel?

Does anyone know if they've made any edits or cuts to the script for this production? I have a friend that saw it last night in Costa Mesa and she told me that nearly all references to any of the characters having AIDS were removed. Namely, the following lines:
ANGEL: "This body provides a comfortable home for the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome."
COLLINS: "As does mine."
and
MARK: "Close on Roger. His girlfriend April left a note saying "We've got AIDS" before slitting her wrists in the bathroom."
I find it extremely bizarre that any of these lines would be cut because it completely takes away from the story. Would someone confirm this for me, please?
Saw it Tuesday night and both of those lines are still in. There are no cuts that I noticed. They are using "take the girl out of Jersey" in place of "Hicksville" like the previous tours and "help them find the circle line" is "help them find the Statue of Liberty." Those changes caught my ear but are standard for the tours as far as I recall.

The student version only says AIDS once?

Yes, but I was referring to the current touring production, not the student version.

saw the tour last night
thought the non equity cast was terrific-passionate and energetic; all leads were very solid-i didnt personally connect much with the woman playing maureen but ahe sang the heck out of her songs
im a big adam pascal fan and was concerned id be dissapointed with the actor playing roger-his singing and acting was fantastic- the actors playing angel and mimi were also standouts for me
the ensemble also had great harmonies and blending on the big choral pieces
my friend who is a giant renthead and saw the original in nyc many times also gave it big thumbs up.
im very suspect of non equity tours
rent 20th delivered for me big time
i may go back next week for another round

Fire away, folks. I am debating whether to try to get rush tickets for this show. I've never seen it, so I won't be comparing it to seeing it in 1996 on Broadway. But I also don't want to waste money on a bad and amateurish show. The reviews here are predictably mixed, but what might it be like for someone who has never seen it before?
Saw it in LA and really enjoyed it! I, too, went for the nostalgia and was actually pleased to see it as I remembered. I happened to be there for the final show of the LA stop and the audience was on fire which probably helped too. (People were mooing before she even asked them too, etc)
side note: there were sign language interpreters (1 male, 1 female) that were hilarious to watch as well. I was altogether very entertained.
