LePetite, you really are fabulous! There's no way around it.
Ugh, I am not digging Anthony Rapp's new look at all. I wonder if Wilson is okay, he looked terribly sick, hope he is healthy.
It was rude for the fans to interrupt Idina. And Winston, Daphne-Rubin Vega and Taye Diggs have both had major careers post-RENT and they did not get the annoying cheering. I thought it was uncalled for, especially since they were doing a tribute to the late Larson.
I liked how they let everyone talk. I hated that the new cast performed. It was as disappointing and pointless as I thought it would be. If they were going to make such a big deal about it, then they should have actually done something together and OBC only. Oh well. It was still somewhat touching, and Daphne-Rubin Vega looked GORGEOUS on that dress.
I agree that Patti was the best thing about that number.

"I don't think that the cheering for Idina was that of a typical crazy Idina fan. I think that they were cheering because she is a Tony winner and it is the Tonys that they were performing at."
Totally Disagree with this but anyway moving on...
I agree that the performance seemed a little rushed and was a bit of a let down. They could have just done seasons of love or something and that would be that, idk I just was expecting more, I guess? I don't think the current cast had to be there but it was a cute idea. Either way, any dissapointment that stemmed from that performance was completely overridden by Patti Lupone.
"To top it off. I have trouble beleaving that Idina fans would fork out 300 plus bucks just to see her onstage for five minuets with the cast of Rent. "
oh gosh, I don't. Considering that I was surrounded by pyschotic-idina-esque-spring-awakening-shreikers last year when I was there.

how did I know talk of the Rent performance was going to turn into arguing about people cheering for idina. wow...seriously?
Get over it people.

it was so odd how they did it.
they should have had the OBC lined up singing seasons of love....if they did the whole song then it would have made more of an impact, they could of had a montage behind them to set the tone.
fair enough, have la vie boheme (it was probably to re live the original tony performance) but it just seemed kind of blah.
i'm disappointed.
It was hyped up for nothing I think. I would have loved to see them do the whole La Vie Boheme scene.
I think they should have performed the entire show instead of letting all of those other, recent shows that are currently nominated perform. In fact...they should cancel the Tonys from here on out and just have Rent reunions every year! That'd be boss!
I loved it. It's what I thought they were going to do so I wasn't disappointed. And to me it was when Idina said that the show changed her life and Taye was standing next to her (hence they are married) is why everyone cheered....
When Idina started speaking and people FREAKED out, I just groaned. I couldn't believe that!
And as for the performance, I just thought it was entirely lame. Rushed and too short of a tribute - coming from someone who dislikes RENT.
I really didn't expect them to sing all of "La Vie Boheme" on live network TV. There is no way some of the lyrics would have gotten past the censors.
I kind of liked the juxtaposition of the new and the old cast. I thought it was nice to give the new ones a chance in the spotlight. But I do think it would have been more moving to have a little montage, including Jonathan Larsen's photograph or some video of him, and perhaps having both old and new casts sing "Seasons of Love" all the way through. Still, just to have them (mostly) all together again was nice to see.
The cheering for Idina was a bit annoying, but I did think it was cute when she made that reference to meeting Taye during their time in "Rent."

They did LVB at the 1996 Tonys.
I was still surprised when they busted out "Faggots lezzies dykes..."
SOL would have been better if they'd actually sung the whole thing through, instead of having it be a throwback to Robin Williams' 'history of dance' from the Birdcage.

I was rather disappointed that the OBC only sang for a few moments. And I was disappointed that Jesse wasn't there.
After watching the current cast, I fully understand why the show is closing. (Among other reasons) THE CAST HAD NO ENERGY!

I think they were the idina groupies. Sigh, sometimes I think she's equally as embarrassed and annoyed by her fans as the rest of us are.
Anyhow, I too was excited to see Eden, even though I totally missed the screech in the middle of LVB.
*off to watch it again!

Idina fans are crazy and annoying.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Idina fan but I have more respect for her than that.
The RENT performance was good. It lacked but still, they gave the show and more importantly Jonathan Larson respect for the show.
I thought Anthony looked adorable and enjoyed the way he introduced it, it was appropriate.
The current cast of RENT is a **** show, although I didn't even notice Eden. I felt embarrassed for the OBC watching the current cast's "La Vie Boheme".
I think they should of performed Finale B. That would have been fantastic.
The Jonathan Larson tribute was the best part.
blahblahblah
why can't you people take what you can get.
at least they did ANYTHING.
I have to agree that the Rent performance was not what I expected. I wad hoping for a little more from the original cast. I also thought the current cast didn't give 100% in their performance. I had seen them the night before and thought they were wonderful. They had so much energy and there was never a dull moment. But when I watched the whole Rent tribute I thought it wasn't what it could have been.
I was kinda disappointed. I had hoped they were going to sing a bit more. I agree w/ the tackiness of the Idina fans interrupting her. I like how she kept talking though and kinda gave the air of "enough".
It was very cool however to see all the cast up there together :)!
Any idea to where Jesse was?
He's done with Law and Order, no?
Wonder what his next project will be.
He doesn't seem like one of the cast members that would intentionally distance himself from the show.
.... oh i also forgot to say, you'd think that the final performance of the night would be a BANG instead of a "that's it??". I looked forward to it all night and then really it was kind of a flop. It was a nice little tribute, but I feel like there was so much hype about it before-hand.
The performance felt a little choppy, but I was really moved by it nonetheless. To see the final and original casts together, to see a friend up there performing... it was very bittersweet.

I was not impressed with the performance either. I would have rather seem the full SOL song performed by the OBC than what there was...which, I feel was a bunch of songs trying to be jumbled together. Also it almost seemed that the new cast got "in the way of" the OBC.
Also, I know they are older now but many of the OBC members seemed dull and uninterested. And when introducing it, Anthony just didn't seem to be very enthusiastic.
