it was way better than american idol's version of SOL.
in my opinon, wilson did look ill ... and thin. im not starting a rumor. just saying what he looked like to me.

So people cheered when Idina spoke. Ok so? It didn't go on and on, it was quick and they stopped when she started speaking. I honestly can't believe that people would give it a second thought really, and I'm even more surprised that it would bother anyone enough to come write about it here. Let's not be too over dramatic here. There seems to be a tad bit of hypersensitivity now when it comes to Idina and her fans or groupies (or whatever you want to call them) in trying to find any reason to criticize a situation.
Don't try to pretend that it's an overreaction to find something wrong that a bunch of immature little girls interrupted a speech about Jonathan Larson's unexpected death to cheer for their favorite Elphaba.
Even worse than people criticizing the screaming Idina fans? People making excuses for it. I would have complained if anyone screamed, not just Idina fans- but Adam, Anthony and Taye fans didn't scream. If you have a problem with the "hypersensitivity" towards Idina fans, perhaps you should pick your battle in an instance where another fanbase acted just as inappropriately instead of when Idina fans were the only ones in the wrong.
Also, OH MY GOD FREDI WALKER'S ALIVE.
...Well, duh. She used to post here, so unless something dramatic happened in the past 2 years, we all assumed as much.

I was a bit let down by the whole thing...I don't know what I was expecting, but a whole song by the OBC would have been nice...

Ugh, and I knew that they would do that, too.

>>Yeah I was wondering about that. But there was all that hype and all they did was sing seasons of love?? And did no one else find it a little strange that the current cast performed...I dont know it seemed like it was taking the attention away from the OBC which was what Im sure what most people wanted to se. just my opinon...
Yeah, and wtf was up with the sound last night? The mixing between the back-and-forth of Anthony's intro sections and LVB, and the original cast taking the stage, was static-y and muffled at times. We missed most of Adam's speaking part, plus the original cast soloist also sounded bad because of the audio trouble. Disrespectful, considering the hype the appearance had, for the honor they *should* have paid to that show but didn't.
(The sound was a problem in other parts of the show, too, such as in the "Xanadu" number, and I'm sure others I didn't catch, as well. What was going ON with the sound people last night?)
It was a nice little tribute, of course i wish they had been more but i dont know why everyone is moaning.
The Tonys is not there to be a tribute to Rent or any other shows, Rent will pull out all the stops on its closing night at it's own theatre.
I enjoyed seeing the old cast with the new
They should have just X’ed out the LVB song and let the OBC do more talking, singing, or show a montage.
I am glad the OBC did not perform LVB because I think they are too old (sorry if I offend anyone!) to be jumping around like they are young adults.
I feel like the promos and the announcer lead me to believe that the OBC was going to do some FANSTASTIC scene from the show…and then we see the current cast perform LVB…8-/
All in all, “Seasons Of Love” was a perfect song for the OBC to perform. They didn’t have to dance or move around too much.
LOVEPUPPY – thank you for bringing this up. The crappy sound ruined my enjoyment when the OBC reunited. Here they are, at their final tribute to the show, they are singing “Seasons of Love” with their incredible voices – and the sound is all screwed up!!! Uggghhhh!! I was so upset!!!

Taylor--regarding where Jesse might have been, he's on the books to do the title role in a bio movie about Marvin Gaye (how fitting and GREAT will that be?!?). Not sure of the shooting schedule for the movie and whether they've started or not, yet.

It was a letdown. And yea...IMO, none of the casts AFTER the OBC of RENT have been good. I think RENT is one of those shows that...tho its a good show...just doesnt hold as much of an impact without the OBC...I've seen several casts including the OBC and none of them really compare to the Originals. Their all so blah and look like they are caught in the headlights. And yea...I hate it when Idina's fans go nuts...and thats coming from a Idina fan lol. But that whole reference to her and Taye being married was cute...so was Kristin Chenoweths joke lol
The current RENT cast was AWFULL!!!! It seemed like a group of high school kids trying to put on RENT.
It was cool to see the OBC, though they didnt sound much better!
Of COURSE Freddi is alive. She's been doing pharmaceutical commercials.
I enjoyed seeing the original cast on the red carpet (yeah, I got all excited when they were near), but I was disappointed by the performance. It wasn't bad, but it could have been so much better.
As for the Idina screaming, it didn't bother me. I laughed a little. Outside, all the shouts were for Taye. Weird.
I agree that the current cast seemed off, but mainly because the song was so freaking slow. Also, Will Chase, who I adore, looked ready to collapse. By the way, what the heck was Taye Diggs wearing?
"I am glad the OBC did not perform LVB because I think they are too old (sorry if I offend anyone!) to be jumping around like they are young adults."
I actually think it's funny that some are saying this because the majority of the current cast is the same age as the OBC. It's all a matter of knowledge and perception.
All I could think was that no one on that stage looked young enough to be hooking up with Mimi, a 19-year-old girl...
It was a really sweet and necessary idea, but a little awkward in practice. I'm sure the final performance will really do the show justice, though.
I'm sure the final performance *will* be wonderful, however not everyone can and will see that. I'm disappointed that the opportunity to share a final performance in the year the show will close wasn't utilized to it's fullest potential. The fans worldwide who will never get to NY and who live in areas that don't get the tour deserved that.
Ah well, half a song and a mini tribute will have to do.

I wish they could of at least sang more of "Seasons of Love." It was very rushed, and I was sad about that because I was so looking forward to seeing them.
It was nice, but not a fitting tribute.
The Tony people should have cut "The Little Mermaid" and other random performances (even though I love Megan Mullally) and gave more time to the RENT OBC.
And yes, Idina wasn't the only super-star up there. Adam starred in Aida, why did he get the shaft? And, the entire cast was part of possibly the most groundbreaking musical of all time, and, for one thing, they should have got a standing ovation (Even though Lin-Manuel Miranda stood up, amongst a few others).

LOL... my goodness, are you a teenager? Ten years older is nothing. I saw Anthony and Adam reprise their roles in September and let me tell you they were AMAXING. The "younger" cast had nothing on them. As far as the Tony tribute is concerned, nicely intended but poorly put together.
Louisa
I definitely thought it was anti-climactic. The big deal about it was...what exactly? Even my sister, who is and has been a huge Renthead for years was like "That was it? That's what I've waited and waited for?"
Whoever that current Mark is was HORRIBLE!
i get the impression Idina is kind of 'over' her irritating obsessive fans.
Oh, dear. Of course everyone is PMSing about cheers when Idina started speaking. Please, it wasn't a loud, chaotic interruption--there was a split second of some cheers and applause, she didn't even stop talking, and they didn't ruin any sort of poignant moment. It's not like the house was packed with Idina fans. It was mostly people in the business, and a handful of theater fans, most of which were probably NOT "crazy Idina fans." Frankly, often Idina's fans bother me, but I think it's kind of hilarious people got their panties in a bunch over this. In the theater world, she's the biggest star of the cast (so to mention that Adam, Anthony, and Taye's fans didn't scream is absurd--all three fanbases combined aren't as large, nor is their theater work as popular), and got a bit of recognition for it. Boohoo. People screamed when Whoopi was mid-speech and said "Oklahoma," referring to August, and no one's jumping on that. Why? Perhaps because its a play and has nothing to do with Rent or Wicked.
And really--if the cheering for her ruined a poignant moment, wouldn't that make her turning to Taye and giggling and making that moment *gasp* about her and her husband rather than the show even worse?

No, it's just that some of her fans don't really understand that not everything is about her. It was not about honoring a theatrical legend, it was about "OH my God, I hope she hears me"
So sad that Jesse wasn't there! I felt a little disappointed too. Felt they should have done more and having the current cast there somehow took away from the OBC. I thought the audience's reaction was somewhat reserved too, but that's just me reacting as a RENT fan!
