What are the chances that tickets for Rent's opening night will be released? Do off Broadway shows usually put opening nights on sale to the public?
When do these tickets usually get released?(if at all)
I know some Broadway shows put opening nights on sale but they are in bigger theaters.
Would going to opening night be totally out of the question?
Thanks
Telecharge does not have that night for sale. I would say to go to the box office to see if there are any seats available for that night. My bet is that if there are, they will be back of house or in the mezz. If there are any left.

Just a curiousity question (ignorance on my part - really looking forward to visiting NYC for the first time in a week! and seeing 3 shows including Rent). Are there any differences between the shows as part of the 'previews' and after opening night? Are previews cheaper or something? Is it just a case that an audience could expect things to be not as smooth during the previews? What is the signficance of 'opening night' when the show has been running for several weeks? thanks

Speaking of rent, does anyone know how its doing? We aren't coming to New York until the holidays. I'm Crossing my fingers that it will still be playing.
Annie, I think opening nights are just an event anymore. The press goes in to see the shows during the week before they open. The show should be frozen by that time so no changes are supposed to be made.
rac35 I think it will still be around when you are in NYC.

redmustang, yes. It has been in previews for a couple of weeks.
They are doing a lottery and opened mezz seating to the public. The performance starts at 7:00 instead of 8:00 for opening night.
Shows don't usually put tix on sale for opening night at all...until they figure out how many they need for producers, family members and such. Once that is figured out, remaining tix often are released, but you never know how many or when.
Same thing happens with "premium seating" at a certain time premium seats that haven't sold at those prices are often reduced to regular priced tix and released.
House seats are often held until the last minute too.
So...shows that may appear to be sold out now, may actually release tix next week. So it never hurts to keep trying a specific date. (Thats why you will hear about people still getting tix to see Mormon, for example.)
drama is correct. The seats were opened up yesterday and the lottery was announced the other day.

I just... I just can't....
I mean, lyke, srsly, ppl??
I was at the opening. It was a pretty low key affair. I saw someone else in the pink shorts after the show and kind of wondered what was up with that outfit. Later I saw Mr. Christopher with that person and another all dressed the same. I was told it was a tradition and that they thought one of the other men was his father. They really looked cool all walking together.
I thought it was a pretty high energy event! Lots of excitement in the air and lots of interesting people meeting and reuniting. I'm sorry I passed on the after party
