Has anyone seen ROA since Emily Padgett has taken over the role of Sherrie? How does she compare to the previous Sherrie's?
Something about this thread just doesn't seem right....
You mean the fact that both of these members have absolutely zero posts that don't have to do with Rock of Ages?
i like the show and I was thinking the same thing... smells fishy... or cheesy... can't decide.
1.) It's Paris Hiton's favorite musical ever-if that gives you an indication of its appeal and demographic.
2.)The cast is INSANELY TALENTED. Leagues better than the material and the degrading costumes worn by most of the female cast.
3.) Its reminiscent of a revue you would see at Six Flags only raunchier and with an intermission.
4.) You'll know every song (unless you lived under a rock in the 80s) which makes it fun.
5.) Have a few shots before you see it-it makes it easier to deal with the biker chicks screaming and the fact that all the people sitting around you smell like cigarettes and beer.
6.) The show is totally mindless fun-go, relax and just smile. It's completely brainless (see #5-it helps you relax)
I too am uneasy with this...
^
1)there are a lot of NON Paris Hilton types, nay, Paris Hilton loathers who like the show.
2) the people beside me were not smoking people in their 50s
3) i agree with the brainless bit
i really didn't like Amy Spanger, the show is fun.
and yeah, this is out of left field.
Probably the most clever new musical currently on Broadway. I like to call it a brilliant, post-modern satire (which it is!). Gives it a little more heft for the people who need that.

Emily is a good dancer, but Kerry and Amy are better singers IMHO.
saw the show with the understudies. have to admit i didn't miss the "stars". i really enjoyed myself. however, i'm a product that grew up during the 80's.
I just saw it last night for the first time. I didn't find it terribly funny (and I had 4 drinks), but I do see the appeal. It's just not my cup of tea....or beer I suppose in this case.

Thanks for the answer to my question and I apologize to Jordan Catalano, adam greer, snarkywannabedreamer and star struck who all seem to have a problem with me because I asked an innocent question. I didn't realize that a newcomer was not allowed to post on their board. My family and I are traveling to New York, my favorite city in the world, this June. We have tickets to see ROA and I just wanted some information on the new Sherrie. Thanks for the warm welcome.

it wasn't that..it is that there were two new user posts in a row ( i think)
anyway...you will have a blast. and if you don't, please tell that too. i hope you post your thoughts after seeing the show.
to get a really good grasp of the show too there are a lot of ROA productions on youtube that give you a good idea of humour of the cast and there are clips of them on many tv shows. watch them too and have a good time.
maybe put THAT info in your post instead of a blanket "post your reviews here." Like I said, I love this show but this topic has been posted to death- about every show on broadway. If you really are new and coming to nyc and all that you will find a thread with all the fan reviews you need on any show already posted. plus, (as a fan of the show- a show that is often maligned on here) your new thread just made me groan because it opens the already tired criticisms from snobs that this isn't "quality theater" and the story is stupid, blah, blah, blah. The fact is, it's an entertaining show that does EXACTLY what it sets out to achieve. Be a fun night out. That's all. And speaking of STORY ONLY, there is nothing more stupid about this story line than say... "Hair," for example. That story is ridiculous and ONLY saved by amazing songs and singers. So I guess your post just made me sigh and say "really, we are gonna go through this tired conversation again?"
^ i love that post!

it also doesn't mean people who love those shows do not absolutely adore and respect old classics, serious dramatic theatre and the like.
reminds me of how the serious operatic society went postal about Paul Potts who just loved to sing breaking into the operatic world and actually selling out concerts.

Snarky, my post was the one asking abnout how Emily Padgett was doing in the role of Sherrie. I did not ask for reviews of ROA because I have been going through this message board and read the previous reviews from other posters. I simply wanted to know how Emily Padgett was in the role of Sherrie since taking over the role in March.
So Snarky, thanks for the comments but next time make sure you're directing them at the right person.
Thank you to all the posters that answered my question. I really appreciate it.
"I apologize to Jordan Catalano, adam greer, snarkywannabedreamer and star struck who all seem to have a problem with me because I asked an innocent question."
You included me in this group of people you think did you wrong but if you were paying attention you would see that my first post had nothing to do with you and was directed to the originator of this post. So I guess it is you who should follow your own advice and make sure you're directing your comments to the right person. Then there will be no confusion.
i think the confusion is that I was responding to Jordan's post (one that had nothing to do with you as well) and adam's post (that did refer to you) slipped in while I was typing so I guess you assumed I found your question about Emily fishy. The thread itself is what I think is a bore not your question about Emily (which has been talked about on numerous posts as well, FYI)
>>>I apologize to....
WHY?
Ask anything you want.
I love Emily.
& I have seen all the Sherries - The show is wonderful- Have fun!!
Brilliant as usual Snarky
Walliemo - I didn't mean to give you an un-warm welcome, honestly. I felt the same as snarky, that I like most of the true fans of the show am exhausted trying to defend it in yet another new board about it. I understand you may have not known this, but I just hope that now you understand why. And please don't think harshly of us.
All that said. Plain and simple, it's my favorite. From the few I've seen with Emily as Sherrie, I wouldn't say she's my favorite, but she is talented and it's still a treat.
Emily is great. go see it. the cast is fantastic.
walliemo, this was simply a misunderstanding... you thought I was talking to you and I thought your second post was from the original poster. (I apologies for not paying attention to your name... I was reading the post and it read as a defense of the post itself to me so I thought that was who posted it)
anyway, snoooooore. can we please take this thread out back and shoot it in the back of the head!?
