With the flurries of announcements of new musicals for the 2013-2014 season, have there been any revival announcements beside Les Mis? And if Les Mis is the only revival, does it automatically win the Tony for Best Musical Revival? I hope the second question doesn't sound stupid.
There's also the Alan Cummings Cabaret revival, although I believe roundabout hasn't confirmed it yet.
Romeo & Juliet
Twelfth Night
Richard III
Macbeth
The Glass Menagerie
Betrayal
No Man's Land
Waiting for Godot
Killer Joe
After Midnight (aka Cotton Club Parade) (if this counts?)
Hedwig And The Angry Inch
Les Miserables

As it has not been on Broadway before, I wonder if Hedwig is well-known enough (like Cinderella) to warrant being in the revival category.

CapnHook, Hedwig is a revival? I thought it was off-Broadway and I didn't consider After Midnight because it is the same show just under a different name.
Hedwig is a well-known property that was even adapted as a motion picture. It will be deemed a "classic" and placed in the Revival category, just like LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS and RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA.
I assumed After Midnight would be considered a new show.
As for AFTER MIDNIGHT, I didn't see the hsow at City Center and am unfamiliar with it. From my understanding, it is a musical revue based on a nightclub act? I don't know if it's an "enhanced" production of a revue of yesteryear (meaning it will probably be placed in the Revival category), or if it is a brand new revue entirely (or a new musical).
It is a just a brand new musical revue featuring songs from the 20s and 30s. It should be treated like Fosse and considered new.
Gotcha. Then yes, it'll be a contender for Best Musical.

So, currently up for Best Musical Revival are:
Les Mis
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Cabaret????
I think we all know that it will either be Cabaret or Les Mis for the Tony.
Les Miserables will not be the only musical revival. There's always some surprise announcements in the fall that no one really saw coming. And contrary to others, I do not see it being a big contender for any awards unless Andrew Varela and Betsy Morgan repeat their roles. This production is not Broadway quality, and it doesn't come close to even touching the original staging. It also has one of the most poorly designed sets I've seen in a long time. Terrible sight lines, a VERY narrow stage, and MASSIVE wooden set pieces that clog the stage and limit the blocking and movement.
I'm really hoping we are lucky enough for The King and I to happen this season! I would love to see a gorgeous production directed by Sher and designed by Michael Yeargan at the Lincoln Center!
"I think we all know that it will either be Cabaret or Les Mis for the Tony."
But what if Cabaret is a recreation of the Mendes revival?
A revival of Funny Girl could be announced unexpectedly. It has been in the works on and off for a while

bwayphreak234,I would LOVE if LCT did The King and I but with Sher directing The bridges of madison county and Kelli O'hara starring in that as well I don't if LCT will be able to do the production. I would assume the production would be in the V Beaumont, but I don't know how long Macbeth is supposed to run,so who knows???

So, the whole musical revival for this season is up in the air beside Les Mis. Basically.
If MERRILY transfers, I will cry tears of joy! It could be the first Sondheim musical to play the Sondheim Theatre!
Musical revivals often are announced later on.
Pippin was definitely a late addition to this past year's season.
Besides, LCT and Roundabout still have not announced any revivals for this season, which I imagine will change.
RW3, let's wait until the productions start performances before issuing an opinion on what will be nominated for/win a Tony.
