Heard he was a nightmare to everyone during the earlier workshop they did at the beginning of this year.

If you've never seen "Show Stopper", the documentary on Garth Drabinsky, it is REALLY worth a watch. I know it's available on iTunes.
I think it is an extremely fair piece to him, both good and the bad.

Maltby and Shire just had a new show last year. I think it was called Waterfall.
Last I heard they were hoping for a Bway transfer, but I guess that didn't pan out.

I was just going to comment on Waterfall, tazber. Do you think it's dead or maybe just on hold for a while? I don't know anything about Madame Sousatzka besides the very small paragraph on wikipedia but Waterfall sounded like the more interesting show besides the apparent casting.

In some ways I have a soft spot for him. As a theatre obsessed teen in the 90s it was exciting to have all this stuff here in Canada. Particularly being stuck on the West coast--he tried to make Vancouver a theatre hub and built a gorgeous theatre where his productions would play early on.
Kiss of the Spider Woman (which, Hal Prince had said nobody would touch after its disastrous workshop before Garth called him up suggesting it had potential), the 90s Show Boat, Ragtime (100% his idea which he meticulously assembled), Fosse, even Parade (staged after his downfall) would simply not exist without him.
Min a YouTube panel discussion about Spider, Gal mentions how there are simply no other producers working in the old way like him--involved with every detail, willing to take huge expensive risks and give artistically great but commercially risky shows the lavish productions they deserve... And now we know how he could afford that.
Dont get me wrong. I think he's a horrible man. But he's responsible for several of my face theatre experiences.

I know that if there is a production in Toronto, it wouldn't be until the Winter 2017. The theatre being looked at isn't available for an extended run in the fall.

The G&M article says they are looking at Spring 2017 (not sure by Winter 2017 are you referring to early '17 or late '17?). Regardless this show could never sustain "an extended run" in Toronto. Especially at the Elgin. It's not the type of show that would draw interest with the Toronto theatre going public.
