Ok, well I don't follow peoples posts on here as closely as some do but in this case After Eight is jistified in his feelings for this show. Yes, they are quite strong but he is not basing ithem on just listening to or reading about the show.

I have yet to see it but I have downloaded the music. I am not a big Miranda fan as far as his rapping and acting (I have seen him live). There are some brilliant songs tucked away in HAMILTON. I want to see it as I hope I will appreciate it more live but for now I am over the hype (and the price!). I think the parody has the potential to be funny because along with the show itself, they will have all of the hype to include and that could be funny. I do plan to see it.

After Eight said: ""It's a comedy. From the creators of South Park. What did you expect."

Vulgar, stupid, unfunny, juvenile crap. And that's exactly what we got.

To get back on topic, I'm sorry Alessandrini is turning his attention to this. The last thing this grotesquely overhyped opus needs is to receive yet further attention. Unwittingly, Alessandrini is helping do the work of the gargantuan media machine as much as any fanboy/girl, and as, qolbinau states, the producers are laughing all the way to the bank.

"

Are you really sorry that the man who has been doing the exact same thing for decades is "turning his attention to this"? It's not like it's out of character. He lives off the hype that mega musicals generate (e.g. Seasons of hypeee...). He is not going to write the parody of a random Off Broadway musical that ran for 27 performances, jeez.

Blaxx,

The Forbidden Broadway series has gone steadily downhill since the first one. The law of diminishing returns has set in. But if Alessandrini wants to write another, that's his right. As I stated, I'm sorry he's putting yet another spotlight on this show. Whether it's another gushing puff piece in a newspaper, online, or on tv, or a parody revue, it all amounts to the same thing: more free publicity and more attention. I'm sorry this show will be given both.

AfterEight, we all get the fact that you don't care for Hamilton. Fine, that's your right. You're entitled to your opinion, as ill considered as many think it is. But what is impossible to understand is why you seem to belittle those who have a different opinion about the show. You write as if you believe that simply because YOU don't quite get what all the fuss us about, no one else should either. This attitude doesn't just make you appear to be old and crotchety, it makes you appear small and closed minded.

I suggest that you read Chernow's brilliant biography of Hamilton. Perhaps then you will appreciate the brilliance of Miranda's writing, as his score follows the book faithfully and thus tells the story of one of our truly great historical figures in a way that has made it come alive for so many people. Understand that this show is truly educational, much more so than 1776, for example.

You do not have to be a fan of rap to appreciate what makes Hamilton as great as most think it to be.  You just need a bit of historical curiosity coupled with a bit of open mindedness.

"But what is impossible to understand is why you seem to belittle those who have a different opinion about the show."

Isn't that exactly what you are doing with respect to me?

Earlier in this thread you COMMANDED me to delete my account, in capital letters, no less. The very nerve! Your arrogance, presumption, and lack of manners are beyond the pale.

"Understand that this show is truly educational, much more so than 1776, for example."

I don't need to turn to Broadway musicals for my education. I know how to read books --- and do. And frankly, as far as education is concerned, Fiorello!,  Sophie, and Ben Franklin in Paris, to name but a few, offered it in far more more entertaining fashion than this lumbering opus. And they had far better music, too.

"You just need a bit of historical curiosity."

You don't know me and have not the slightest notion of my "historical curiosity." So spare me your advice, do, as well as your commands.

Well, downhill is subjective; considering Alessandrini lives off his dozen spin offs and sequels. It's not like he doesn't find the profit from mocking mega musicals. And I doubt his artistic integrity is in question, if any. He'll continue to do this until he dies, why not capitalize on the Hamilton hype?

THAT, my friend was parody, quoting Hilary Clinton's direct response to one of Donald Trump's recent Tweets, caps and all.  It was a major story in the news, and was, by far, her most retweeted post. Perhaps we now understand your problem, you may simply have no ear for parody, which is what this thread is all about.

I would never actually want you to delete your account, much of what you say is simply too amusing.

It's remarkable charting After Eight's response to Hamilton from when he initially saw it at the Public till now. From last January:

"It needs a lot of cutting. The book drags on with too much narrative, and too much of little interest. It's heartfelt, polished, and has some effective moments . The rapping offers some clever bits, but it's more often than not fatiguing. The music is listenable but unmemorable. Lots of movement and dance try to inject some liveliness into the proceedings, but can't prevent interest from flagging over the course of a three hour historical biography that really doesn't cry out for musicalization.

Ben Franklin in Paris was far more enjoyable."

And from After Eight, that is actually a pretty good review. Funny how his opinion devolved as the show has gained more success from audiences and critics alike.

"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

"much of what you say is simply too amusing."

Odd, then, that you don't appear the slightest bit amused.
