i LOVE David Pittu but Danny Burstein? while he was funny, i don't think his vocal prowess was anything special. i think Riedel has it wrong.
Interesting, Both NYPost and NYTimes are some what in agreement about predix. Should be lots of fun to watch.
I like both IN THE HEIGHTS & PASSING STRANGE. Its just PASSING STRANGE is a more superior show and definitely deserves to win the TONYS!

If the only effect of Cubby was to bring attention to "Xanadu" to people outside NYC, then I'd say mission accomplished.
It seems to follow the tide...when most shows drop, it drops, when most shows gain, it gains. It's all a matter of degree.
While I also believe Passing Strange will win, I much prefer the Tony to go to In The Heights.
Just saw Passing Strange on Wed. night and ADORED it.
I say Passing Strange for the win! Def. Best Score.
Much preferred it to ITH.
I think IN THE HEIGHTS will probably win Best Musical, even thought I want PASSING STRANGE to win it!!! or even XANADU.
I would love for a big upset.

I really hope ITH takes Best Score and Best Musical. Passing Strange is bland yet pretentious and overrated. Passing Strange isnt "art". Neither is ITH. But ITH deserves it. MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE and a great acheivement. Yes, the story is so-so but the score is SENSATIONAL. But hey, thats just coming from a guy who refuses to count SUNDAY and its leading actor/actress out of the competition.
I hope he is wrong re Best Musical.
why aren't Passing Strange and In the Heights "art"?

Hahaha that is just funny. When was the last time you wrote a musical based on your life experiences and put it up for an audience to see? What is so great about about both of these musicals two very different approaches to musical theater, but they are musical theater none the less. If you don't consider to of the best musicals to come around in a while art, then what is art?

I'm not sure I put much value in Riedel's sources....when the nominations were about to be announced, wasn't Riedel saying that his sources said Cheyenne Jackson and Tony Roberts were both sure bets for nominations?
As much as I want Xanadu to win, and how much I expect ITH to actually win...I dunno, something tells me that Passing Strange may pull an upset.
I went to see PS again a couple of weeks ago, and I was laughing and crying the whole time, and there was a much stronger integration of book and score than any of the other nominees.
I think realistically, as it comes down between PS and ITH, there's no way they'll win both Best Musical and Best Score - I think voters will try to split the difference and give the vote they don't give to Musical to Best Score.
Though that said, could Xanadu pull ahead if PS and ITH cancel each other out? Should be an interesting night, and it's great there is no real frontrunner, but a lot of great choices.
My favorite line...and really, are those producers THAT delusional?
"Over lunch yesterday, someone involved in "Grease" proffered this theory: "Grease" is going to win because the "classy" shows - "South Pacific," "Gypsy" and "Sunday in the Park With George" - will "cancel each other out."
Back here on Earth, the winner will be "South Pacific."
and my favorite line:
* Cubby Bernstein may have wracked up several hundred thousand hits on YouTube, but "Xanadu," the show he's hawking, doesn't seem to be getting much traction at the box office. "Have you noticed that since Cubby debuted, the grosses have actually gone down?"
Ha! you reap what you sow!
If his "Passing Strange" prediction is correct, I'll probably throw up a little.
With the exception of Featured Actor in a Musical (I'm pulling for Breaker), I'd be completely happy if Riedel's predictions came true.

I saw Passing Strange on Tuesday and was absolutely blown away. It is the first show I actually cried during. God knows I LOVE Xanadu, but Passing Strange just moved me in a way I have not been moved in a long time. I left that theatre saying PS for Best Musical...
I HOPE Mary McCormack wins! She is amazing in Boeing!
Patti's in Cats?
I still don't understand Passing Strange. I was bored to tears, and felt Stew was painful to watch, and the score wasn't anything special. But hey to each his own. I am hoping In the Heights wins or Xanadu.
