"But the truth is, a lot of things he announces.. well turn out to be true!"
And the opposite is also often the case!

Cant ALW just have one theatre and rotate his show in and out. I really cant stand his stuff.
I can dig a little superstar... but not much more than that.
-Adam Shankman.
"I haven't left this building since Windows 3.1!"
"Celebrating a birthday this week: Rene Descartes is 412! Do you know who he is? Then why are you watching this show? You could probably get into college and even get one of those job things. As for the rest of us; Amanda Bynes is 22! Yay!"

Corine.
Humor relies completely on a mutual and shared understanding of language (verbal or non), experience and frame of reference.
Randomly quoting lines without giving attributes is sure to cause confusion unless you're quoting infamous lines that the general populi would know.
Perhaps that's why Sueleen, and several others are confused by your comments in this and other threads.
Just a thought.

That makes at least two of us. His time has come and gone. He hasn't had a NY hit in years.

Riedel is correct more often than not.
You're all forgetting...there are people on these boards who mistake speculation for truth.
Riedel says: "Weisslers checking out MAME for NYC."
BWW says: "MAME to open on Broadway."
Riedel says: "HAIRSPRAY may close by the end of the year."
BWW says: "HAIRSPRAY sucks and deserves to close ASAP."

BwayBaby-
Not to be "one of those people" - but your opinion, to me, would hold higher value when criticizing a show for being in "disrepair" if you took a few moments to spell check your post and type my name correctly.
And I heartily disagree. The show is in excellent shape - perhaps you saw an off day/night. And with a book and score that solid, I don't feel that the show could be in "disrepair". It might need a refresher, but disrepair? Not so much

He has a nickname the BUTCHER.
Well, mine is the LOVER of Broadway.
A nickname doesn't really count if you give it to yourself.

How has "Hairspray" outstayed it's welcome?
It's been open for about 3 years, won 7 Tony awards, has been a hit on the road, and is now making a film. It's numbers are high each week, and lately, without a star playing Edna, the numbers have remained high. Each time i've seen it, the audience has been thrilled. I last saw it in April and actually thought it's in the best shape it's been since the original cast left.

Posted: 6/28/06 at 12:12pmI enjoyed Hairspray when I saw it, and had a nice time. It just simply isn't my favorite show on Broadway. I just think it's ridiculous for everyone to go crazy over an annoucement like this. Nothing is set in stone.

I can understand "Hairspray" wanting to go out on top, but I can't imagine it closing when it's still a good moneymaker.
I'll jump on the train that says that a Hairspray transfer might be the more likely option. This rarely happens anymore due to technical costs, but it used to happen all the time. The original Bye Bye Birdie played the Hirschefeld, then the Shubert. Godspell played the Broadhurst, Ambassador and Schonefeld and 42nd Street played the Winter Garden, St. James and Majestic.

It is always sad when a show we love closes, but that is the nature of live theatre. It is not meant to last forever. It is a moment in time that we have shared with the actors and other audience members that will never be repeated or shared by anyone else.
That is what makes theatre so special and different from a film.
Corine, I believe your emotional state is too fragile to be a true lover of theatre. You have to let go. There will be other shows to love and memories of the ones that are gone. It is as much a part of life as death. If you can't get through seeing a show you love close with out having an emotional breakdown, you really should rethink things. What does your therapist say about this? Remember, there WILL be a Hairspray movie and there are the cast recordings, too!

Let me gaze into my crystal ball. ANY show on Broadway MAY close in 2007.

My pick would be "Evita"

Posted: 6/28/06 at 12:45pmCorine, a reality check might be timely now. Riedel doesn't know you, so rest assured he's not "purposely going after shows you love", that is delusional. Now to more important matters, *if* it comes in, it better have Orfeh in the title role and that's "nuff said".

Posted: 6/28/06 at 12:48pmI just don't want to see Idina Menzel in Evita. I don't know if she ever would, but just to make sure, let's bring the show over here quickly and quietly while Menzel's still under contract with Wicked.

Agreed, LL.
I want Rogers in it. An authentic Argentinian would be welcomed. I can't imagine Equity not approving it.

Did Riedel say awhile ago that HAIRSPRAY was gonna close and it didnt. I cant seem to understand that HAIRSPRAY would close. I think its stupid for it to pack it in when it sells 80 to 90 percent capacity as it does, even with no big star as Edna or Tracy (true Haylie Duff & Diana Degarmo will help out in summer and fall) but still. Evita SHOULD come to Broadway, but like someone else said. The Palace would be great for it, a nice big house with balconys by the dozen plus no show is committed to the Palace.

No show is committed, yes.
But there are shows vying for it.
