I'm not sure "Evita" would be a viable hit show. It has been touring, like "Cats", for years and last year's Equity tour was not a big hit. ALW is not the draw he once was. Leave "Hairspray" where it is!

Thank God! I HATE EVITA with a passion. I've given it so many chances to like it, and each time hated it more. I would be so upset if it replaced Hairspray-my favorite show in the entire world. So move your bloomin' arse somewhere else Lloyd Webber!

maybe HAIRSPRAY could stay open, and EVITA could go into the Eugene O'Neill assuming SWEENEY will be closing in a few months or so...
or is another show trying to get the Eugene O'Neill?

The man with the cleaver gives me heart ache on a weekly basis.
I have seen Hairspray four glorious times.
It is one of my favorite shows of all time.
I AM GETTING SICK OF THE CLEAVER. It is not funny anymore.
IT MAKES ME ANGRY.

Why is Riedel a monster for saying that HAIRSPRAY may close by the end of the year?

He never said he didn't like the show - one's speculation has nothing to do with how they feel about the show at hand.

I adored TABOO, but knew it would close within a few months.

Again, speclation has nothing to do with taste.

Riedel's speculating that HAIRSPRAY may be gone by the end of this year is not completely unlikely - nor is it irrational, mean, cruel, or absurd.

Why do people always go nuts over waht Riedel says? Relax, damn it. He never offcially said Hairspray is closing.

You people love to hate Riedel because he announces things about shows/performers you love. But the truth is, a lot of things he announces.. well turn out to be true!

Lets hope Evita comes to broadway! I have heard from friends in London that it is wonderful, and we need another Lloyd Weber show to grace broadway! Hope it comes!

Riedel is a sick freak. I don't want Hairspray or any show to close, i personally like the show, but if it closed, it had a run of over 4 years. Which is a very long run and i don't think people should freak out. It has had a great run, but i doubt it will close anytime soon, the show is almost sold out everyweek.

He never said "The horrendous Broadway debacle HAIRSPRAY should close soon."

He said "Hairspray may close soon."

I don't think Hairspray will move from The Neil Simon, with 1428 seats, and all the way up there on 52nd St.
Fall of 2007 is still some time off, and The Palace is available. I could picture a short run for either Mame or Hello Dolly, and then...
Or maybe The Broadway Theatre, Evita's first home. The Color Purple is doing great there now, but for how much longer?
Anyway, I'm very exited about this production of Evita coming to NY. The origional was my 2nd Bway musical, and I've been hooked ever since!

Criag i am all for everyone's oppinions but i just feel it is a lackluster show. I saw it once when it opened and i saw it again recently and i feel like it has already "run down". I just feel like it has fallen into disrepair of what it use to be.
