Man, if Arthur wrote the Spider-man book, I can only imagine what mischief he would get in with Julie... those two-handed heretics of the sword would go at it like wildmen...
Dancing & singing green goblins in green goblin language
Him & Taymor going at each others throats is really an interesting thought.
I hate Arthur Laurents with every fiber of my being (and love him almost as passionately but hate him more), but I can honestly say this to all of you:
Arthur. Never. Used. A. Casting. Couch. In. His. Life.
Again.
Arthur. Never. Used. A. Casting. Couch. In. His. Life.
Understood?
There are many, many, many, many, many horrible things one can say about Arthur--and I have said them, and I will say them, and others have said them, and others will say them--but one thing I wish those of you who have no personal knowledge of him would drop is this casting-couch rumor.
It diminishes the absolutely poisonous nature of his real deeds by reducing his evil to a level we all share: lust. If that were all it were, one could almost admire him him, at 92, for still being active.
But Arthur commits evil acts against people for reasons far scarier than a casting couch. It's something sick and evil, and something I hope few of you, if any, experience in your lifetimes.
My heart goes out to Matt, whose performance in this production I disliked. I look forward to cheering your next one.
"Arthur turned on him," one source says. "And once Arthur turns on you, it's over. There is nothing you can do."
For the record, although I have posted the same phrase on this board--almost word for word and more than once--I was NOT the source Riedel quoted.
I did think of you when I read that, PJ lol
As Mary Rodgers said, "Call me when he's dead."
Will you share some details when he dies, PJ?
...If he ever dies!
...If he ever dies!
Luckily Arthur is not Love, cause then he'd never die!!!
(sorry that was a bad joke).
To quote Hamlet (Claudius, actually):
"Love! His affections do not that way tend."
Someone should "turn" and call him on his writings in his book about how he loved Matt's and Karen's talent, and now he fires Matt and bad mouths Karen to the press.
But instead, he will get another ass kissing from the ADVOCATE saying he is a Gay icon, when he really is a devil with no moral code at all.
And Karen has not had a perfect attendance record since Arthur's outburst, but she has done better than her post TONY fiasco.
This was one of Reidel's jucier bitchfests, calling Matt a "canny little operator" hits way below the belt, I don't think anyone thinks Matt "hit the couch" for this role, but he did have staying power if the producer's wanted him replaced after D.C.
Find me where Laurents bad mouthed Karen to the press, please.
In Riedel's last piece about missing performances.

Where is that article does Arthur say anything about Karen?
OK you win.
But if you don't think Laurents OK'd that quote about her missing....
Arthur Laurents is Lestat
I hate Laurents with all my being...
Let's give props where they are due: Riedel is also a disgusting creature. That thing - Riedel, for the avoidance of any confusion - is scumtastic.

PJ, were Matt and Artie, I'm sure he wouldn't mind me calling him Artie, having a little fun in that article (was it Times?) letting people think there were casting couch shenanigans?
Riedel is Mother Teresa compared to Laurents
If feel bad for Matt. I really like him and think he has a lot of talent....he just wasn't right for this part. I wish him well. As the article warns, the new Tony better watch out!
Laurents made a deal with the devil. The devils revenge was Nick & Nora.
Matt really kissed Arthur's bum in WSS interviews and press, always slipping in an Arthur story. I think that is what Riedel means by "operator." I think Matt worked Arthur with some ego stroking.
After seeing Natalie Cortez the other night, I wonder if Karen is next on the hit list. Natalie really blew the lid off the Palace.
Karen won the production's only Tony Award. They'll keep her there as long as she wants to stay. It would be an extremely foolish move for either Arthur or the producers to fire the sole piece that makes this revival "Tony winning."
