So, here's hoping I get lotto tickets when I go next month to see YF. I really want to see it especially with Sutton(My mom wants to see her too, my mom loves Sutton).
Oddly enough I'm seeing Cat on A Hot Tin Roof on Thursday with my Acting II class.

Ms. Rashad had training and experience in theater before her TV stardom. RAISIN was hardly the first play she had done. There are plenty of reasons to dislike a performer, without making things up.
fflagg is right on--Debbie Allen should be directing industrials for Amway.
Is her Tonys speech online anywhere? I always see people talking about it, but I've never seen it myself.
Oh it was something--like a Bazooka Joe wrapper written by Maya Angelou.
I thought Rashad was fabulous in RAISIN and well deserving of her Tony. She was also pretty darn good in GEM OF THE OCEAN.
But from that point on it's been downhill.
Every performance has been a rip off of her RAISIN performance. Nothing new, nothing fresh. It's gotten really tiring.

Up until now I've had zero interest in Shrek. I've stated before that I'd pay to see Sutton read the phone book, well this is some what better than that, and even though this is not my cup of tea, I think she'll be great great in this role.
This is very bizarre, to have simultaneous conversations about "Shrek" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" in one thread.
I had a feeling Cat was selling well. Every time I've walked past that box office, there have been at least 5 or 6 people in there, queued up to buy tickets. It's strange to see a line in the box office, with the proliferation of phone and especially internet orders.
I wanted to see the first preview but have to leave the city Tuesday morning, is there any way to get into a dress rehearsal w/o invitation? I'm just dying to see the show.

Foster, from that point?
She has done two plays. "Bernarda Alba" and "Cymbeline". How large is this hill she's been going down? Two performances?
This year, the Actress/Featured Actress and Actor/Featured Actor slots are going to be incredibly tight.
Brick, I also saw her in the A WONDERFUL LIFE benefit performance for the Actors Fund.
Each performance has been a duplicate of her RAISIN performance. Same vocal inflections, same posture, same bag of tricks.

I also had zero interest in the Shrek musical until reading that. I've really enjoyed watching Sutton and I hope Shrek winds up being a better showcase for her talents than Young Frank.

thanks, i will try the rush this thursday.
Haha...I'm trying to imagine Sutton in full-blown ogre gear.
I, like most people, fell in love with Clair Hanks Huxtable, and became more familiar with Phlyicia Rashad sometime later. Apparently, she has always been a smidge haughty and affected. I read an article by a Dreamgirls OBC member who said something to the effect of Ms. Rashad always having a put-upon look on her face; as if she felt that she belonged in a production more complimentary of her talents. In her Lifetime Intimate Portrait, she shared moments of her past with a quivering voice, and watery, fluttering, half-mast eyes as if she was doing the affective memory exercise. The only things missing from her Tony acceptance speech were a crown, sceptre, and ermine-trimmed cape. Meanwhile, if I met her on the street, I would ugly cry.
I really dont understand why sooo many people HATE on Phylicia and her talents. She has proved herself time and time again. I get that she has an air about her but its not Diva-tude all the time....shes just elegant and poised. Now I'm not saying that her Cym. performance was the greatest but her work on TV (The Cosby Show, Cosby, The Old Settler, etc.) and her work on stage Medea, Raisin, Gem of the Ocean(OMG! I secretly like this performance more than RITS) speak volumes about her talent. Not at all the same style and technique all the time. Like her or not but respect talent.
what talents? She ain't Lena Horne or Diahann Carroll. She makes Halle Berry look talented.
She makes Halle Berry look talented.
Oooohhhhh - now - that was uncalled for!
Would you be saying that if she hadn't sunk her career after her Oscar win with Catwoman, Gothika, Perfect Stranger...
I don't think anyone in this thread has denied her talents. She's just a bit...haughty.
However, I've liked her in just about everything I've ever seen her in.
I liked Phylicia's performance at the Tony Awards as the Witch in Into the Woods.

Who the hell is Lena Horne or Diahann Carroll when it comes to Phylicia Rashad? And why must you people compare folks to another?
It's about art...not popularity contests.
