I recently listened to an interview with Nina Arianda, who says that she does sing, she just hasn't in awhile. Doesn't say if she has a good voice or not, but she seemed pretty confident.
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
She said she wouldn't call herself a singer, but she can sing, which makes me imagine she'd be somewhere along the lines of a Joanna Gleason.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

That's what I was thinking, givesmevoice. I'd love for Lauren Ambrose to get the chance to play the role, but Arianda would be equally wonderful, IMO. Arianda and Murphy on stage together would be simply electric!
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I've always thought so, broadwaybaby, maybe that's why I like Arianda so much (well, that and the fact she's hugely talented).

I had never even thought of Arianda for The Baker's Wife (my heart is set on Kate Baldwin), but she would be fantastic.

having seen the video of this production in regent's park, i can easily picture meryl as the witch. she would be fantastic. she may be a little old, but with a great costume and wig, she'll look wonderful. think patti lupone's boobage in women on the verge.
I don't know if people around here think Fergie isn't 'beautiful' enough to potray youth and beauty, i'm afraid the audience would be howling at Streep. Twenty years ago YES YES YES. Now though.... let's give it to someone else.
When is Streep going to have time to do this? She has about twenty films in her schedule. If they in fact want to move it to Broadway, she likely won't be available for the transfer. Just thinking in terms of practicality here.
I would personally prefer the show be an ensemble piece as it was meant to be.
