Posted: 2/25/12 at 1:14pmMoving on, while she's a little too old to play it now, Linda Emond was always my dream Baker's Wife. I'm sad that she never got the opportunity to do it.

Posted: 2/25/12 at 6:50pmI don't see Billy Porter as the witch since he is supposedly attached to the Broadway-aiming production of "Kinky Boots". I can see Audra forgiving Sondheim for his P&G outburst and agreeing to play the witch in the revival.

Posted: 2/25/12 at 10:15pmHow about Audra Forgives Sondheim for Porgy and Bess feud and agrees to play the bakers wife?
Riedel: The Public already wants to bring WOODS to Broadway... #103
Posted: 2/25/12 at 10:20pmYeah, Audra is definitely much more of a Baker's Wife than Witch.

Posted: 2/25/12 at 11:10pm...and Audra is in a little show called Porgy and Bess, which is scheduled to run until the end of September.

Posted: 2/25/12 at 11:18pmYes and correct me if i'm wrong but as I've heard it mentioned on here, She leaves the show in June. It'd be really tough to do, but i think it's such a good part that she would do it.

Posted: 2/25/12 at 11:26pmBusy or not, the more I think about it - I really think Audra would make a sensational Baker's Wife.

Posted: 2/25/12 at 11:28pmWhy would Audra be leaving PORGY & BESS in June? I doubt they would have extended through the summer if she and the other leads weren't sticking around.

When i had last read it here people were saying her contract was only till June. I admitted i may have been mistaken something wicked. She may have extended and i missed the announcement.

Posted: 2/25/12 at 11:59pm...The production was built for her and Norm Lewis. But mostly for her.

Yes and i acknowledged she could have extended and i'd missed it but from the material i'm looking at, it says the production has extended but no mention was made of Lewis or Mcdonald staying on i hope they do, and i could be wrong but still.
Just because a show is extending doesn't mean it's cast will extend with it.

Could a transfer of this specific production really work? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was designed for an outdoor theater (making the Delacorte a perfect option).
For those who have seen the London version or the taped version, would they need to make a lot of changes to bring it indoors? Or am I reading WAY too far into the open air aspect?

Posted: 2/26/12 at 12:12amNot really a name nor a superb actress...but Linda Eder would KILL the vocals for the Witch.

The open-air aspect is one of the several aspects that defined it, but not from a technical standpoint. It could easily lose something in a traditional house. But, people said that about the Hair revival.
Given a stellar cast, smart direction, and smart design, a transfer is totally feasible.

From the NY Times on the Porgy and Bess extension:
The show stars the Tony Award winner Audra McDonald as Bess and Norm Lewis as Porgy. A spokeswoman for the show, reached on Thursday, said they would continue with the show through September.

Posted: 2/27/12 at 1:14pmYou're all star-casting The Witch, but I think if there's going to be a star in this, my money's on Anne Hathaway as the Baker's Wife.

Plus the public has said they want a star for the witch.
Where, exactly, has The Public itself said that? I haven't seen a single article where a representative of The Public has been quoted to saying that. If Michael Bennett is accurate (and he usually is) and they were pursuing Donna Murphy, then they might be going in a completely different direction that what's been predicted by columnists and posters on this board.

Posted: 2/27/12 at 4:18pmIt's also worth remembering that it is the Baker's Wife that's the Tony-winning role even if the Witch is the role that was star-cast in the Broadway productions. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed this up a bit for the revival; however, I'd be pretty excited if Murphy headlined a cast of A-list Broadway actors, it'd make the show stand out as the great ensemble piece it is.

AC Casting is said to be underway already for the role of 'The Witch' and that the producers are seeking a big name. I hope it dosen't pan out but i can't blame them for wanting her star cast.

That's not what I asked.
