Tilda Swinton is interested in AUNTIE MAME, which is the original non-musical play and film, both of which starred Rosalind Russell.
MAME is the musical adaptation of AUNTIE MAME.
AUNTIE MAME and MAME are 2 totally different projects based on the same source book.

A revival of A Little Night Music with Meryl as Desiree's mother Madame Armfeldt. Wouldn't have to dance, she'll sit in a wheelchair and a low keyed song "Liasons" and age appropriate. Not too taxing. Audiences would love her.

Considering her voice really shines in the upper part of her head voice I wouldn't really say Madame Armfeldt would be a good fit. I think it would be more interesting if she was Desiree and Julie Andrew's as her mother

After seeing Meryl in Mary Poppins. I cant help but to think of her broadway return. As she had stated shed prefer an original piece. I would love her to take on Webbers upcoming musical that he cant name yet. Or something jason Robert brown/Sondheim-eque. Something wordy and actor driven.
That being said. I think she would fare better in a straight play. And would have better stamina for one

I really want her to originate a role in a musical. Maybe when Sondheim is done with his Bunuel inspired musical, there will be a part for her. She really is a lovely singer on top of being the finest living actress we've got and it feels like it's been forever since she's been on stage.

Well, if not Mame, perhaps Desiree's mother. All she has to do is sit in a wheelchair and sing one song, "Liasons" and not be in great voice as Hermione Gingold wasn't either, and STILL be on Broadway!
