It cracks pretty easily, then.
Do you have an actual comment to make, or do you just sneer at other people's posts?

Posted: 3/21/12 at 12:08pmIt made me laugh. I made my comment, which you discredited immediately with the tried and true "I am rubber/why don't YOU change YOUR sig file" response. So basically, it doesn't matter what anybody says because YOU saw a good production of Annie and you know without final casting even happening that this one will not be up to the high artistic standards that your memory holds from the late nineteen hundred and seventies. So, really, at this point if anybody (at all) writes something as funny as that first paragraph, I may just add that it made me laugh.

Posted: 3/21/12 at 12:11pmRosie O'Donnell has become quite tiresome. I perferred her when she was championing for Broadway, as opposed to wanting to appear on Broadway.

Good for you, Namo.
Don't you have a Madonna thread to be "so over with" now?

No, actually, I don't, best12bars. And you aren't the traffic director and you aren't a school marm so maybe you will just have to try to unclench your butthole and realize that while you may, in fact, be a control queen, you simply can't control everything.
Kalimba, Rosie had been on Broadway before she had her show upon which to champion Broadway. So, in the chicken and egg formula of such things, being on it came first. Also, they built the entire Grease revival around her.

Posted: 3/21/12 at 12:29pmJust mentioning that this is HuffPo's unconfirmed report (with no new news) and there has been no official announcement from the production itself regarding casting. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in it.

Namo, I was going to add "Although she appeared in the revival of Grease first...." I saw her in that show and couldn't stand her in it and enjoyed the revival much more after she had moved on. I actually liked her tremendously during her early talk show years, but after the Tom Sellick incident on her show, her stock fell (IMO). I just never really cared for her after that.

Please theater gods make it just go away, and by "it" I mean RO and her idea that Broadway is some stage in her backyard.
Beth Leavel, Andrea Martin, Debra Monk - all viable Hannigans - all with Tonys. The name in ANNIE is ANNIE. Make a good production and people will come to see it.
This is obviously publicist piffle but I really hope it doesn't happen.

Posted: 3/21/12 at 12:39pmI'm going as far back as when Rosie O'Donnell was a standup comic on Star Search. I thought she was funny at that point. Since then, not so much.

Those of us who saw the original production of ANNIE witnessed something quite special. Surprisingly, it was one of the most sumptuous productions I've ever seen. The whole enterprise seemed to be perfectly cast, designed (amazing) staged, and performed. Miss Hannigan is an odd role because she does not get much stage time (for a lead) but Dorothy Loudon mined it for everything it was worth.
I have a hunch the reason many qualified actresses are not interested in the role is because they aren't interested in all the little girl (pardon the pun) mania that would come with a Broadway run of the show. Performing (and signing autographs) for squealing youngsters eight time a week is not exactly attractive. Compared to a film offer or two, I don't blame many of them for choosing film or TV in this case. Hannigan's a great part, I'm not knocking it, but I can see why some actresses wish to avoid.
I like Rosie O'Donnell well enough, but I too am disappointed if she has actually been cast. As Ray....86 already said, “we can already imagine her performance in our head,” and I doubt she'll go much beyond that notion in reality. It's simply a lazy choice in my opinion. I hope they keep looking...
Sirius Black suggested Debra Monk. I think she's a great idea. I think Christine Ebersole or Beth Leavel could send up a great Hannigan, but again, I doubt they're willing.

Haha, no I am not on crack, and not that it matters because they are both contracted in network shows, but just for F*CK's sake, I'll defend my suggestions re Messing and Krakowski, both of whom are incredibly gifted comediennes who surprise me at every turn with what they do. With Messing, I imagine the natural reaction is to immediately say that Mullally would be the better choice, whereas I think Mullally (whom I adore) would play it too closely to Karen Walker, whereas it'd be a different role for Messing, I just think she's insanely talented *and* would give a refreshing against-type performance in a role that is within her range. Krakowski is one of the funniest people on earth, IMO, she already plays a drunk who hates kids on 30 ROCK, she could play Hannigan in her sleep and make it funnier than Rosie O'Donnell. Just my opinion though, I was just making the point that there are a dozen actresses who could turn in an exciting turn as Hannigan.

I saw a New Years Eve performance of ANNIE and was a bit tipsy. I think I saw the original cast. Was Harve Presnell in the original cast? At any rate, I guess I didn't see a good performance of ANNIE because I was bored. Kids in the audience talked throughout the non-musical moments of the show. That didn't help matters for me.
It seems to me that Debra Monk would be a good choice, to echo what someone earlier posted. I would not want Rosie if she is prone to "winking at the audience". But as a general entertainer, I enjoy her.
I used to have a dog named Satu who, although a standard poodle, would have made a terrific Sandy, if we are up to colorblind casting of dogs.

Posted: 3/21/12 at 1:14pmShe turns 50 today - I'm sure this role would be the perfect birthday gift for her, and cheer her up after the axing of her show. I think she might be a good fit...stranger things have happened.

Posted: 3/21/12 at 1:14pm^ You didn't see the original cast, Gyspy9. Reid Shelton originated Daddy Warbucks and played it for a couple of years before joining the national tour. So you saw it later in the run.

Posted: 3/21/12 at 1:27pmThis is just O’Donnell’s pr flack Cindy Berger putting this stuff out there to distract from the embarrassment of Rosie’s show being canceled. If I’m an Annie producer, do I really want to hire someone who just lost a talk show aimed at the very audience that’ll be taking their kids to see Annie?

I'm going to add Faith Prince to the list. No, she's not a huge star, but she could do a brilliant job performing the role.
