If she's serious about this, she should start taking vocal lessons with a top teacher in the city.

Here is a thread from last month about Rosie's interest in the role.

Thank you.

Allison Janney!!! YES. I personally think that would be perfect. As much as I hate ANNIE, Miss Hannigan is a great role and would love to see Janney in it.
I was only like 8 when the ABC TV movie version came out and I thought the woman that played Hannigan was Rosie. :) haha

Posted: 7/29/10 at 2:19pmRosie would put more butts in the seats than all those ideas combined. They'd be an idiot not to cast her. Get Harvey to play rooster while you're at it. They do never do explain how he got that nickname, do they?

Here is my dream Annie cast (if the show has to happen, not that I want it to happen) from my blog.

ROSIE??...GOD SAVE US ALL!!!
Andrea McArdle would be a good move, but only would appeal to theatre people understanding of the original cast of Annie...
Allison Janney could work, I can see her as a bitter old spinster.
Jane Lynch has a wide fanbase and appeal as the deliciously evil Sue Sylvester on GLEE...which means she's got singing chops. She'll be the ideal choice.

Ugh, what a terrible idea.
Janney would be great but my number one choice is Haydn Gwynne, unfortunately she isn't a name and it wouldn't be easy to bring her over again.

I would love for Allison Janney or Jane Lynch to play Hannigan, either would be great. I'd also love to see Beth Leavel or Carolee Carmello but unfortunately neither of them would get butts in seats. Just about anyone other than Rosie would probably make me happy though, I can't stand her.

It's a shame Broadway has to cast this way now. Nobody outside of a 10-block radius knew who Dorothy Loudon was in the original. Or Reid Shelton.
Somehow butts were in the seats. For many years.

Posted: 7/29/10 at 3:46pmThe only reason to cast O'Donnell in this is because of marquis value, and frankly, I don't think thats at all what it used to be. I think Jane Lynch would very possibly be a bigger draw in 2012 than Rosie.

Can we just cast Jane Lynch & be done with it?
I doubt they would be able to get her for it.

Posted: 7/29/10 at 3:59pmI'm sure that the Glee conflicts will be too much for Lynch. Same issue with the proponents of Lea in Funny Girl...not to open that can of worms.

Ultimately, I think the awful revival in the 90s in part proved casting a 'name' as Miss Hannigan is something of a mistake - Hannigan is a supporting role (despite Loudon winning a lead Tony for it) and it spoils the balance of the story when she becomes the inevitable emphasis instead of Annie and Warbucks. As Best12 pointed out, the show has played well for thirty years (including in a successful recebt non-Equity tour) without star casting it.
Watching the clips of McArdle in NC, she's clearly having fun with it, but I don't really think she's the best choice to do a revival on Broadway.
