Ah, yes. I suppose it actually pays off to read all the posts on a thread before asking, eh?
Does she sing opera-ish or pop-ish?
Anne sang a little in "Ella Enchanted" (or so I hear) and also in Princess Diaries 2. I am a little ashamed that I saw the second movie, but, hey it had Julie Andrews in it.
I don't really see either of those actresses in those roles.

I could actually see Hathaway as Glinda, she is very funny and ditzy...and if i may say, veryyyy cute lol. But I still think Idina should play Elphaba
Who do you guys thing would be good as Elphaba and Glinda if they made a movie of the book? no music? anyone in mind?
I'm not that fond of EITHER of their voices...

For a non-musical version:
Maggie Gyllenhaal as Elphaba
Kirsten Dunst as Glinda
Anne has a lovely voice. I think she would be a fine Elphaba if it came down to it.
sassypanz, Thank you! Rossum couldn't sing the part but she would be wonderful as the bitchy version of Glinda, no acting required. Sorry Zep.
Fiyero- Heath Ledger
Boq- Elijah Wood
Madame Morrible- Judi Dench
(I'd go see it in a heartbeat if those three were in it. I'm hoping a casting director is reading this....)

She seems more like Nessa to me

You can see Anne sing in Ella Enchanted. I really enjoyed her in that movie.
Emmy... no, please God. Just original cast!

Galinda- Reese Witherspoon
Nessa- Natalie Portman
Galinda- Jennifer Garner?
I could so totally see Reese as Galinda, opposite a Natalie Portman Elphaba.

Chenoweth and Menzel are both contractually tied to the project if it ever happens. They'd have to be bought out (which I imagine is not impossible, but would be pricey.)
I think the RENT film will actually be fairly influential in the "musicals casting game"--if it does well. They might just decide to start casting OBCs if it becomes huge.
At any rate, WICKED is not going to happen for a LONG time. The one you guys might want to think about is URINETOWN, which DOES have a first draft of a film script, and is being currently being worked on.
And for what it's worth (not much) I thought Rossum was atrocious in Phantom. Her singing was ok, but she seems to have only one facial expression.

Oh come on now, that's not fair. She had many expressions. Deer caught in the headlights with slight jaw drop; stunned happiness with slight jaw drop; stunned sadness with slight jaw drop; botched Botox/frozen forehead; trance-like; stunned trance-like; stunned botched Botox; stunned happy deer with slight jaw drop in Botox trance...And they all kinda looked like this----

I could see Rossum doing Nessa Rose.
Or Teri Hatcher
Let's put Dakota Fanning as Glinda or put Megan Mullally in and what the heck, Rosie as Elphaba

"And they all kinda looked like this----"
But she also looks like this...
i guess anne hathaway would make elphaba really innocent.
ehh i dunno about the other person.
after all of Chenoweth's movie and TV credits that are building up and Idina doing Rent Movie, they are likely to get them.
But I like the idea of Reese Witherspoon as Glinda
Not saying she could sing or act the role, but isn't Jessica Simpson's TV persona too perfect for Glinda?
yes. that's kind of odd.... i definitely see anne as more of a nessa. i don't think i'd like her as elphaba. i say origionaly cast....
elijah wood as boq? awwwww......
Just use the originals.....they'd bring in just as much.......
I really don't want to see the OBC in this movie. Idina's acting is hardly right for Elphaba on screen. Rather a movie version of the book would be a 1000 times better. Anne I think could make a nice Elphaba, strong enough acting anyway. But Emmy as Galinda, I think not. While I did love her in Phantom she is just not right for this part at all. Would love to see who actually does get cast when this movie is made (which hopefully won't be for a while).

I would just like to say that the whole Emmy Rossum 'jaw drop' stuff nearly made me spit my drink out all over my screen. Just lost lottery for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels AND Avenue Q (I guess you just jinx yourself if you and a friend stand across the street from each other hoping that at either location ONE of your names will be called...) and that brightened my day! Off to watch The Grudge, hope it's good!
