Could someone tell me what Roundabout's Post-Show Discussions are like?

This is how they describe them:

Forget the stage door! Roundabout's Celebrity Series brings members of the cast and crew to you, when a Roundabout teaching artist leads a lively post-show discussion about what really happens behind the scenes of a production.

Will I be sitting across the table from Sondheim and Chenoweth drinking coffee and having some laughs, or will I be sitting in my theater seat while they send out a supporting actor and the Chief Electrician to take some questions?

Thanks

The one I attended after The Real Thing was really boring. None of the actors came out to talk. The audience started leaving in droves. But are you referring to special ones for subscribers? Those may be better.

I attended Harvey. You sit in your seat, or a closer one, because many people do not stay. There is no coffee. Jim attended, I think the director and the set designer. This was just a scheduled one not a subscriber.

I went to one for The Real Thing and every cast member came out. It however was not great because a woman who barely spoke English asked a crazy complicated question that none of the cast understood. The burden of answering fell on Cynthia and the woman would not give up the mic and asked a follow up that sounded the exact same. The cast were all lovely and funny, though. Too bad a good chunk of the time was spent wasted trying to understand that crazy woman.

I went to two of the Cabaret discussions. The first was with Linda Emond and Danny Burstein; the second was with four ensemble members. Both talks were fun, if not super informative or well planned.

The ones I've attended have all been pretty good. Many of the actors DO come out.

The determiner of interest is really the audience and the questions they ask. (and their attitude.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Thanks.

It sounds like it's a roll of the dice, but you don't have much to lose by hanging around to see what develops.

I think they do have another level of post-show discussion that they charge $175 for, but their website is very confusing. Since I am a subscriber this year, maybe the expensive discussions are a perk.

I haven't heard of an "upgraded" Post-Show Discussion for subscribers. I'm a part of their HIPTIX Gold program and from my experience, which performers come out after the show during these events depends entirely on the individual. I attended the last Celebrity Series for The Real Thing and all the actors came out to discuss the show and take questions. Since their 2012-2013 season I've attended a Post-Show discussion for every one of Roundabout's shows and the turnout is actually pretty good.

"Mostly, I loved the size of these people's emotions. Nobody has emotions this size anymore. Outsized emotions. Operatic emotions. Kushemski and Vanda are like Tristan and Isolde, they're Paolo and Francesca. Nobody's in total thrall like this anymore. Nobody's overcome by passion like this, or goes through this kind of rage."
