Funny timing of this post.
As I look at Broadway videos on YouTube to help occupy my time, I was reminded of a video posted shortly after the closing of the show of Bette's FINAL FINAL performance of the title song. Electric is an understatement. I was fortunate enough to be there that night (August 25th) and will never forget that experience for as long as I live. But the (illegal) video was, admittedly, a thrilling way to relive those 8 minutes. Not long after it was posted, the video was taken down. Does anyone happen to have a link to that treasured video that they could perhaps DM me? I'd be forever grateful! :)
On a side note, I saw what ended up being the second-from-last performance of the tour. Carolee was SENSATIONAL, as was John Bolton as Horace. That said, as splendid as this production was, I couldn't help but think numerous times how incredibly spoiled I was to see the opening and closing Broadway casts. Bette, David, Gavin, Kate, Taylor, Beanie, Jennifer, Will, Melanie... they were all untouchable. Perfection brining to life Pure Joy.

What doesn't make sense to me is filming the show twice. Usually, when shows receive professional recordings, the archive don't film them as well because that's basically a waste of money for something they can get at 30 dollars later for their library. Wasn't that the case with Hamilton, for example?

No. No. I do not want to see a hyper-psychotic take on Dolly Gallagher Levi on an HD screen!

I have seen Staunton give some very warm performances on film. See the movie PRIDE, which was on Amazon Prime and may still be. It is an ensemble cast, and she is anything but psychotic in it. I bet she will be a huge success.

Film and stage are 2 completely different acting styles. On stage she plays to a huge venue, which doesn’t lend itself to the intimacy of a camera. Sadly, she doesn’t tone down her stage performance for the camera so it’s comes across as panic and over-acted. In the theatre, this suits the performance on the stage.
