Is "A Star Is Born" the Hollywood equivalent of Broadway's "Gypsy" now? Do we really need to see it "revived" multiple times? This would actually be the FOURTH time around. Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand ... and now Beyonce (or whoever they get).
EDIT: And many film historians count "What Price Hollywood?" as the first incarnation, which would make this version #5!
We've already seen Beyonce go from "undiscovered waif" to "megastar" in Dreamgirls. She did it well, but there will be nothing fresh here, except for the time period of this movie.
And Russell Crowe as a jerk of a big star who drinks too much and is on the decline? How about casting someone likable to take the fall (like George Clooney), instead of someone who is already living the part?
I'll be rooting for him to kill himself in the first five minutes. I would put "spoiler" on that sentence, except if you haven't seen ANY of the previous versions of the movie, you actually deserve to be "spoiled" here.
"Jaws is the Citizen Kane of movies."
