You have to got to be kidding. Then again, I guess Nine did come to fruition so SIB automatically won't be the worst movie musical of the century...
Armeggdon has arrived. I am now sure of it.
I'm scared and intrigued at the same time.
No! Nooooooooh!
When will people realize the fact that Beyonce is not an actress?
Judy Garland > Beyonce.
Just put it that way.
Yes, it's sad what passes for excellence in art nowadays.
Thank you. When you can't even act in a make up commercial, you have no business in a film. If she does star, how will Crowe playing second fiddle? But I guess that's the point of the story.
I thought her acting was meritable in DREAMGIRLS...

I was hoping that Glitter would kill the remakes of this film.
I was wrong.
Beyonce Knowles as a singer and actress is not worth a pimple on Judy Garland's *ss.
Umm since when is Beyonce an actress?
i love beyonce as a singer AND as an actress.
that being said, i don't ever want this to happen. the thought of beyonce riffing all over "the man that got away" makes my skin crawl. this should NOT happen.
EDIT: they will probably get write a new score but regardless this should not happen. if beyonce wants to be taken seriously as an actress she has to move away from roles that are music related.
Why wont Crowe just go away, I mean has there ever been a bigger arsehole?
No just No.
Is "A Star Is Born" the Hollywood equivalent of Broadway's "Gypsy" now? Do we really need to see it "revived" multiple times? This would actually be the FOURTH time around. Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand ... and now Beyonce (or whoever they get).
EDIT: And many film historians count "What Price Hollywood?" as the first incarnation, which would make this version #5!
We've already seen Beyonce go from "undiscovered waif" to "megastar" in Dreamgirls. She did it well, but there will be nothing fresh here, except for the time period of this movie.
And Russell Crowe as a jerk of a big star who drinks too much and is on the decline? How about casting someone likable to take the fall (like George Clooney), instead of someone who is already living the part?
I'll be rooting for him to kill himself in the first five minutes. I would put "spoiler" on that sentence, except if you haven't seen ANY of the previous versions of the movie, you actually deserve to be "spoiled" here.
Russell Crowe fan here. I think he's perfect for the role.
As for Beyonce's acting. I think the role in ASIB calls for a heavy hitter with real acting chops. Sorry, Beyonce.
What is it with this Beyonce adoration? She's not all that.
"Russell Crowe fan here. I think he's perfect for the role."
As long as they go the James Mason route, and make Norman Maine a non-singing role.
I will say this ... No matter what you think of her, Beyonce's acting is FAR better than Russell Crowe's singing. OUCH. He really sucks, musically.

So, if they go the "Babs remake way" and make the character a "singing sensation," as talented as Crowe is as an actor, he will never convince me that he could ever be a rock star or any kind of signing star.
Not a chance.
EDIT: ... unless they bring in Marni Nixon ...
I doubt if they'll go the Kristoferson route with it, so I think Crowe would be good.
As far as Beyonce goes, she's very overrated IMO. She's not a strong actress by any sense of the word. I"m sick of the idolization of her. She sings and dances just ok, is what I think. I hate the pairing of her and Crowe in any way whatsoever.
Crowe may be a wild man but he's quite talented.
I think Crowe would be fun. He's a musician and an actor, a very strong actor (obviously) and so he can actually remake the role in any way he wants. In fact, there's very little point in doing it again if you don't bring something new to it. I think Beyonce is still an unknown quantity. She did very well in "Dreamgirls" and there's no reason to think she couldn't be a good actress in the right role. However, this is going to be held to an impossibly high standard and I doubt she can reach that. Should it happen, I'll go see it.

I thought Crowe had a 'subsidiary' career as a musician - 'something something odd grunts' comes to mind. Or something.
Oh, gosh, no. Did we skip 2011 and go right to 2012?

This same story gets told over and over and over and over...Even though Crowe is supposedly a jerk, he it would be great to see him in this role (different than what he usually does) and while agree Beyonce does not act - her singing in D Girls was amazing - maybe she can be a mute who sings.
