So John Dossett and Julia Murney are supposed to play Celia Keenan-Bolger's parents? And Mary Faber is supposed to be her contemporary? And all of these people are supposed to be in high school? Why is Moran Weed the only one who looks the age of her character? They're all talented, but what am I missing? Did they, "they" being the powers that be, not think anyone would read too old (or, in Murney's case, much too young)?

Posted: 5/27/08 at 5:32pmHa ha, as if... sorry, they take good care of themselves, but they all look in their thirties.
re: SAVED photos#2
Posted: 5/27/08 at 5:33pmSadly, I found the pictures better than the show overall.
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!

They all look too old for this show. Celia and Julia can't play mother/daughter. Oops.

Posted: 5/27/08 at 5:36pmMurney's not much too young to be the mother of a high schooler. She's like a year younger than Mary Louise Parker was when she played the part in the movie. Updated On: 5/27/08 at 05:36 PM

Posted: 5/27/08 at 5:42pmDidn't Bolger play a middle school student like 3 years ago?

Posted: 5/27/08 at 5:43pmMurney DOES have weird eyes, though, but that doesn't seem to faze anyone but me.

Posted: 5/27/08 at 5:48pmI think Murney looks the right age for her character, but Celia looking too old for her character makes Julia look young. Everyone looks the wrong age EXCEPT for Murney, which makes her look out of place.
re: SAVED photos#12
Posted: 5/27/08 at 5:48pmWell, no. Murney still looks she could be the mother of a high school student. Just not a high school student pushing 30.

Didn't Bolger play a middle school student like 3 years ago?
None of them looked like they were in Middle School. The audience had to use their imagination.

The thing about SPELLING BEE, though, was the same thing as HAIRSPRAY. In HAIRSPRAY, we know we're watching a man playing a woman. In SPELLING BEE, we know we're watching adults play 3rd graders. It adds to the charm.
GREASE, in its original incarnation, was a parody. In this seemingly "realistic" revival, they suffer the same problem as SAVED. A cast that looks too old for reality.

Why are they performing on the set of PASSING STRANGE?
Are lights gonna be the sets of all musicals from now on?
