I walked by these this morning at Times Square station and was, admittingly, quite amused

I think the one you posted is my favorite, but the final one in the slideshow (i wont ruin it) is absolutely hysterical.

Donkey-Xote is hilarious.
Good for them.

These are awesome.

Posted: 12/2/08 at 10:32pmI hadn't seen them yet either and on my way to work this morning I also noticed them in the Times Square subway station. It certainly did grab my attention. Too bad the actual marquis outside the Broadway Theatre is hideous. I pass that theatre every day on my way to work and can't believe how ugly it is.

I'm straightening the pictures. Here is one.
I pass that theatre every day on my way to work and can't believe how ugly it is.
Isn't that kind of the point?

These are hilarious. They did a great job.
On another note, this is the first time I've seen a picture of Donkey's costume. And I must say I'm not a huge fan. What do others think?

Based on what I've been hearing, these ads are more witty than the material in the show.
I like the 'Broadway gets a make-ogre' slogan a lot more than the 'bringing ugly back' one.

Bringing ugly back is really stupid, especially if you don't know what it's based on.

I love the picture going around for discount saying "EVERYTHING COMING UP OGRES!"
Is this the first public picture of donkey?

Posted: 12/3/08 at 12:34amI know parodies are legal, but it perhaps will not stop Patti from calling her lawyer just to make sure. The Gypsy parody is not flattering to her as it could imply that she is as good looking as an ogre, especially since the show being parodied is a current production. I don't know how much of a sense of humor she has though. I agree that she would not have a legal case.

Posted: 12/3/08 at 12:37amhmm for some reason when I view the slideshow, it shows the 'everythings coming up ogres' for 7 and 8 but it doesnt show the sexy back one... i just wanna see how dumb it is

Umm the add makes no reference to Patti, so i think you're a little overly sensetive.

Is it me or in the Evita parody is Christopher Sieber's right arm like twice the size of his left? Bad photoshopping!!! How did nobody notice this before sending it to print!!!

#21re: SHREK Subway Ads (Clever!) - NY Times Slideshow
Posted: 12/3/08 at 12:59amActually it looks to me like the picture was taken at an angel making his right arm closer to the camera and therefore justifying a smaller left arm.

Tiems Square also features another ad (not pictured in the NY TIMES story), with Donkey ascending a staircase flanked by about 8 colorful toy soldiers with the caption:
HELLO DONKEY, WELL HELLO DONKEY!

Actually it looks to me like the picture was taken at an angel making his right arm closer to the camera and therefore justifying a smaller left arm.
The one is times square has the right arm (dulocs, not the arm thats actually on the right of the ad) larger than the left, so its not just the angle.
#24re: SHREK Subway Ads (Clever!) - NY Times Slideshow
Posted: 12/3/08 at 6:42pmI think they meant the actual picture on the ad was taken at an angle.
