SHREK no longer offers Wednesday Eve shows

Posted: 3/19/09 at 6:12pmINTERESTING. I don't recall a Broadway show removing a weekday evening show from their schedule. It must be nice for the actors, but suck to do the show 5 times within 60 hours.

A lot of shows are moving towards the 5 show weekend. It seems to be very popular to drop a weekday evening (or Wed. matinee) and add a show on Sunday night.
I happen to love attending a Sunday evening performance, so this makes me happy.

Posted: 3/19/09 at 9:40pmI've got to agree. I only get to visit NY on weekends now so having the opportunity to see 4 shows in 2 days is a treat!

"I don't recall a Broadway show removing a weekday evening show from their schedule."
Didn't A Catered Affair do this?

Posted: 3/20/09 at 9:05amYes, but A Catered Affair actually added an extra weekday matinee for the old ladies, not a Sunday night show.

For tourists, theatre fans and others who want to do more shows, I have often wondered why the mid week matinees are not staggered...some shows on Tues, Some on Wed, some on Thurs.
I see ads from the 1940s when Thursday was the standard matinee day for most shows.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 3/20/09 at 4:34pmI also don't understand why it isn't like in the West End, if the matinees were all over the week, they wouldn't compete with each other.

Posted: 3/20/09 at 5:10pmThis makes sense now, since the cast is performing at the CD release party, which starts at 6pm.

I love how the West End does matinees on different days of the week. Works so much better, and spreads out the audiences abit.
I wish some shows did Tues/Thurs/Fri matinees on Broadway, that way I could pack in an extra 3 shows on my trip!

Any chance of the Sunday night show catching on? I see they are trying it out for six Sundays (through the end of May).
With summer approaching and the tourists in town, which do you think would be more profitable - a Wed. evening or a Sun. evening?
