It will be my second time at Broadway, New York.
In 2007, I went to PHANTOM, CHICAGO and MAMMA MIA.
I'll go to NY in May, 2009, and I've just bought tickets for 11 musicals (HAIR, SOUTH PACIFIC, 9 TO 5, MARY POPPINS, WICKED, THE LION KING, WSS, JERSEY BOYS, BILLY ELLIOT, IN THE HEIGHTS, NEXT TO NORMAL).
I want to buy ticket for ONE more show: SHREK, THE LITTLE MERMAID or GUYS AND DOLLS. What do you suggest? Please, give me your opinion.
Shrek (The Original Cast is still there) or next to normal!
Out of those three, Little Mermaid.
Talk about a choice between Scylla and Charybdis.
I vote Little Mermaid
Choice between Scylla and Charybdis!!!!
Should I avoid those 3 musicals and go to see a play?
Well, only 4 votes:
2 Votes in "The Little Mermaid"
1 Vote in "Shrek"
1 Vote in something else

I would say either Shrek or Little Mermaid. But do you have to see a musical? There are so many great plays out now!
Another vote for THE LITTLE MERMAID.
Of those three I recommend Guys and Dolls (however I have not seen Shrek). I did see Guys and Dolls last week though.
Double post.

Skip all 3 mediocre musicals and go see one of the gems of The Norman Conquests ... truly one of the best new shows in town.
Definitely go see a play. (I'd recommend "Exit the King," "God of Carnage" or any one of "The Norman Conquests") After eleven musicals, you'll be ready for a change of pace.

Shrek!!!!

Yes.
Shrek is definitely worth seeing for the four leads, especially for Brian d'Arcy James.
Shrek! But I would recommend seeing a play over those three.

Yes, go for a play. And make that play August: OC, before it closes!
I absolutely love The Little Mermaid, but if you don't like really cheesy, campy shows with very over-the-top costumes and trippy sets, then it is probably not for you!

It also features Norm Lewis half-naked, which is probably the reason Schmerg loves it so much.
I would go with Shrek, personally. It's not as awful as many here would have you believe. The score and book are iffy, but all the performers are great, and it's huge, lavish and (most importantly) easy to get tickets to. It reminds you of everything a Broadway spectacle should be.
As far as plays go, I have thoroughly enjoyed Exit the King, God of Carnage, 33 Variations, and Impressionism. You also can't go wrong with August: Osage County.
Shrek is probably worth seeing for Brian D'Arcy James, if I'm forced to pick from your three options... but if you want the most worthy show on broadway for which you don't yet have tickets... you should see August: Osage County. It's not a musical, but you deserve exposure to plays too. And this is the best play I've ever seen. Give it a chance-- it is SO worth it.

I would see The Little Mermaid before Sierra leaves. The cast of Shrek will be there a while longer.
